Police arrange to reduce more than 1,480 department and team level units

The police force nationwide has implemented the arrangement to reduce 280 more department-level units and more than 1,200 team-level units of the police of units and localities.

According to the Ministry of Public Security's Electronic Information Portal, implementing Project No. 19/DA-BCA issued by the Central Public Security Party Committee (CATW) and the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security on July 10, 2023 on "Continuing to perfect the internal organization of the Public Security units and localities to be streamlined, compact, and strong", up to now, the public security force nationwide has rearranged and reduced 280 Department-level units and more than 1,200 Team-level units of the Public Security units and localities.

The above project aims to implement Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW of the 12th Party Central Committee on "A number of issues on continuing to innovate and reorganize the apparatus of the political system to be streamlined and operate effectively and efficiently", Resolution No. 22-NQ/TW dated March 15, 2018 of the Politburo on "Continuing to innovate and reorganize the apparatus of the Ministry of Public Security to be streamlined and operate effectively and efficiently" and Resolution No. 12-NQ/TW dated March 16, 2022 of the Politburo on "Promoting the building of a truly clean, strong, disciplined, elite, and modern People's Public Security force (CAND) to meet the requirements and tasks in the new situation".

Thus, from 2018 to now, through two restructurings of the organization, the Ministry of Public Security has reduced 6 General Departments, 1 unit equivalent to the General Department level, 55 Department-level units, 7 Police schools, 20 provincial-level Fire Prevention and Fighting Police, nearly 1,200 Department-level units, and over 3,500 Team-level units.

Notably, thoroughly implementing the direction of General Secretary To Lam at the 2024 CATW Party Committee Conference "...CATW Party Committee must continue to take the lead in implementing the Party's policies, continue to carry out the revolution in streamlining the organizational apparatus, provide practical experience for the entire political system to refer to...", on the basis of summarizing the implementation of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW, CATW Party Committee, Ministry of Public Security reported to the Politburo, Central Steering Committee on summarizing Resolution 18-NQ/TW to request policies on the arrangement of organization, functions, tasks, powers, and organizational apparatus of the Ministry of Public Security, research and develop the Project "Arranging and streamlining the local police apparatus to operate effectively and efficiently, meeting the requirements and tasks in the new situation".

The Ministry of Public Security said that after the Project is approved, the Party Committee of the Central Police Department and the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security will advise the Government to issue a Decree amending and supplementing Decree No. 01/ND-CP dated August 6, 2018 of the Government stipulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Ministry of Public Security.
