On June 7, according to the announcement of the Minister of Home Affairs, civil servants and public employees are entitled to 2 days off according to regulations for the National Day holiday, including September 2 and 1 day immediately before, September 1.
The whole country also implemented switching from the second working day, August 31, to the weekly holiday Saturday, August 22.
Thus, along with weekly holidays and holidays, officials and civil servants are entitled to 5 consecutive days off on this occasion.
For workers in the business sector, on National Day holiday, they will be off on Wednesday, September 2, and choose to be off for 1 of 2 days: Tuesday, September 1, or Thursday, September 3.
The Minister of Home Affairs shall notify administrative agencies, non-business units, political organizations, socio-political organizations and businesses, and employees according to regulations.
Agencies and units arrange and arrange on-duty departments according to regulations and work reasonably to solve work continuously, ensuring service to the people.
Businesses must notify employees of the 2026 National Day holiday plan at least 30 days before implementation.
If the weekly holiday coincides with the holiday and Tet holiday specified in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, the employer shall arrange for compensatory weekly holiday for the employee on the next working day according to the provisions of Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also encourages employers to apply the 2026 National Day holiday for employees as a plan for civil servants and public employees, and at the same time encourages more beneficial agreements for employees.

At the press conference to inform about the results of the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, answering about the proposal to add 2 days of holiday on National Day, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Ngo Duy Hieu said that compared to the general level of countries in the region, the number of holidays in Vietnam is still not as high as the average level. This shows that there is still room to increase the number of holidays.
Increasing holidays is associated with the goal of reducing stress, preventing exhaustion and creating conditions to promote tourism and service development.
We see that increasing holidays will not affect businesses. It will have an effect in creating opportunities to reproduce labor for workers, thereby they work with high productivity and good quality" - Mr. Hieu emphasized.
In addition, increasing holidays also creates conditions for workers to take care of their families.
From an economic perspective, this is also a solution to stimulate consumer demand, especially in the fields of services and tourism.
Mr. Hieu emphasized that the proposal to increase days off stems from the reality of trade union activities. After listening to the opinions of union members and workers, the trade union found that workers have a very simple but very humane wish - to take their children to school on the opening day.
