On August 8, the People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province organized a training conference and knowledge enhancement on foreign information, public speaking, and press information provision in 2024 for 200 leaders, spokespersons of Party, government, and mass organizations at all levels in the province.
In his speech at the conference, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province Nguyễn Lưu Trung emphasized that public speaking and press information provision are the responsibilities of agencies, units, and localities, directly the heads. Therefore, the heads must grasp the legal documents on the press, public speaking skills, and press information provision.
At the conference, 200 officials, civil servants, and heads of Party committees, government, and mass organizations at all levels in Kiên Giang Province were provided by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Thị Thu Hằng with knowledge on foreign information work; the Party and State's guidelines on foreign information work; the practical implementation of foreign information work in recent years; some solutions to innovate foreign information work; tasks, forms, and measures of foreign information work at the local level.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Thị Thu Hằng also conveyed public speaking and press information provision. In which, she emphasized the role of spokespersons, what spokespersons need to note; skills to provide information to the press and handle information in crisis situations (including skills to contact, answer interviews, provide information to the press, and experience in handling information in crisis situations…).
According to the People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province, in recent times, the promotion of Kiên Giang's potential and strengths on land and people through mass media has developed but has not met the requirements of foreign information work in the new situation.
The public speaking and press information provision work sometimes has not been proactive and timely. Some agencies and units are hesitant to contact the press; have not organized timely handling of issues reported by the press. The coordination work, especially in handling unexpected, complex, and sensitive issues, has been passive at times; has not effectively exploited the advantages of information technology, new communication methods on the internet, social networks… especially still limited in building a quick response force on the cyber space.
Each piece of information on the press can directly or indirectly affect the development of the locality. Therefore, providing information to press agencies also aims to create conditions for the press to operate in accordance with the law, limiting the situation where the press lacks information, leading to one-sided, biased, incomplete, and inaccurate reporting.
