This morning (September 30), General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense - chaired a welcoming ceremony for the Indonesian Minister of National Defense delegation, led by Mr. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin - Minister of National Defense of Indonesia - on an official visit to Vietnam.
At the meeting after the welcoming ceremony, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that Vietnam and Indonesia are two neighbors with shared maritime borders, and are active and responsible members of the ASEAN community.
The upgrading of relations between the two countries to a comprehensive strategic partnership in March 2025 is a historic milestone, opening a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries, in which political, defense and security cooperation are important pillars.
General Phan Van Giang stated that in recent times, bilateral defense cooperation has achieved good results, contributing significantly to strengthening political trust between the two countries, notably in the fields of: Exchanging delegations, contacts at all levels; cooperation between military branches and law enforcement forces at sea; defense industry cooperation; cooperation between strategic research agencies...
In the coming time, the Vietnamese Minister of National Defense suggested that the two sides continue to strengthen trustworthy, comprehensive, substantial cooperation, focusing on delegation exchanges, meetings, contacts at high and all levels; continue to effectively promote existing mechanisms, especially the defense policy dialogue mechanism at the deputy secretary level; cooperation in training, military service...
At the meeting, the two sides also discussed the world and regional situation and issues of mutual concern. Regarding maritime issues, Vietnam's consistent viewpoint is to resolve all disagreements in the East Sea by peaceful means, in accordance with international law.
Mr. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense. He said he was very moved when offering incense at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son Street (Hanoi); offering flowers at President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum. Mr. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin also expressed that the defense cooperation between the two countries demonstrates mutual trust and respect.
The Indonesian Defense Minister also highly appreciated this visit to Vietnam and said that this is a milestone in defense cooperation between the two countries.
The Indonesian Defense Minister suggested that in the coming time, the two ministries of defense need to further promote cooperation to suit the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia.
