Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin's official visit to Vietnam from January 14-15 will promote cooperation between the two countries in traditional and new fields, in the spirit of friendship, mutual understanding and comprehensive strategic partnership.

According to information from the Russian Embassy, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko said that the visit of one of Russia's top leaders to Vietnam on the eve of the 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Soviet Union/Russia and Vietnam (January 30, 1950 - January 30, 2025) is a symbolic event.

Ambassador Bezdetko assessed that over the past 75 years, the two countries have accumulated a lot of experience, including unique experiences in mutually beneficial and diverse cooperation. Ambassador Bezdetko said that within the framework of Prime Minister Mishustin's visit, the two sides will discuss urgent issues of Vietnam-Russia cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, science, technology, culture and humanitarianism. The two sides will pay special attention to implementing joint projects in the fields of energy, transport, industry, agriculture and other fields.

According to the Ambassador, the two sides are expected to exchange views on issues of enhancing coordination of actions in the international arena, primarily at the United Nations and in ASEAN-centered formats, based on the closeness or coincidence of positions of Russia and Vietnam on key issues of the global and regional agenda, on steps to promote a common approach to solving urgent problems of the time, protecting the basic principles of sovereign equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of independent states, legality and a fair multipolar world order.

Assessing the potential for cooperation between the two countries, Ambassador Bezdetko said that the two countries need to continue to deepen and diversify their cooperative relations.

“We are pleased to note the positive development of trade and economic relations in recent years,” the Ambassador said.

According to the Ambassador, in 2023, bilateral trade turnover increased by 8.3% and in the first 9 months of 2024, it increased by 24% (reaching 4.4 billion USD). Cooperation in the oil and gas sector is progressing successfully, mainly within the framework of the Vietsovpetro joint venture. Russia's Gazprom Group is operating on the continental shelf of Vietnam. In Da Nang city, the joint venture automobile assembly plant with the participation of Russia's GAZ Group continues to produce cars. Some of these products are exported to neighboring countries. Cooperation in the field of supplying food and agricultural products to each other's markets is increasingly developing. According to preliminary estimates, the total value of supply to the market in 2024 will exceed 1 billion USD.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi said that the Russian Prime Minister's visit affirmed the strong commitment of both sides in maintaining and developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries to become increasingly deeper, more substantial and more effective.

Vietnam News Agency quoted Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi as saying that Vietnam is facing a new era, an era of national growth. Russia has also gone through nearly a quarter of a century with many important events, overcoming many challenges and achieving major goals, creating a solid foundation for continued development.

At this important historical threshold, the leaders and people of the two countries have chosen to continue strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, expanding substantive and effective cooperation in all fields, and striving to raise the level of economic and trade cooperation to match the political relationship. This meets the aspirations and development interests of both countries in the new period.
