On March 25, Gia Lai province had a plan to reduce at least 70% of commune-level administrative units in 17 districts, towns and cities in the area.
According to the plan that has not been officially announced, Gia Lai province will have 5 wards and 48 communes after the arrangement.
Specifically, Pleiku City has 21 commune-level administrative units (including 14 wards and seven communes) which will be reduced to 5 new administrative units, including 3 wards and 2 communes.
Pleiku will expand and merge 4 more communes in 3 districts bordering the city, including: Ia Der commune ( Ia Grai district), Ha Bau commune (Dak Doa district) and Nghia Hung commune, Chu Dang Ya commune (Chu Pah district).
Ward 1, including: merging Yen The, Dong Da, Thong Nhat, Hoa Lu wards and Tra Da commune. The new administrative unit headquarters is expected to be at Yen The Ward People's Committee.
Ward 2, merged Yen Do, Dien Hong, Ia Kring wards and Ia Der commune ( Ia Grai district). The new administrative unit headquarters is expected to be located at the Pleiku City Party Committee.

According to the new arrangement plan, 14 districts of Gia Lai province after the arrangement will also have a sharp reduction in commune-level administrative units.
