The whole country currently has 705 commune-level administrative units (UAs) that do not meet standards. However, the Central Government does not raise the issue of rearranging or adjusting the administrative boundaries of communes, because basically the entire system is operating stably and effectively.
Localities that find it truly necessary to adjust, based on management practices and the legitimate aspirations of the people, propose to competent authorities to decide.
However, recently social networks have spread the plan to continue merging communes and wards in localities, attracting people's attention.
On August 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Electronic Information Portal issued a warning about fake documents related to the arrangement of commune-level administrative units being spreading on social networks.
The Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed that Official Dispatch No. 20923/VP-VX issued by this agency does not have attached appendices as the content is spreading on social networks.
The Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that the appendix (information on the merger of 60 wards and communes) attached to the document circulating on social networks is not consistent with the document issued by a competent state agency, shows signs of forgery and is attached to Official Dispatch No. 20923/VP-VX.
Faced with the above situation, people need to be vigilant and proactively verify information from official sources; do not share or disseminate documents, appendices or information that has not been confirmed by competent authorities. This is to avoid causing public confusion and at the same time not to affect the process of researching and reviewing plans for arranging commune-level administrative units in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minh City emphasized that the review is currently only carried out according to the city's direction, on the principle of only proposing adjustments when truly necessary, ensuring science, caution, creating social consensus and not causing disruption.

Tay Ninh province also denied information that there is a project to rearrange communes and wards. Tay Ninh will direct specialized agencies to develop a project to rearrange commune-level administrative units when truly necessary.
If there are arrangement plans, these plans will be reported to competent authorities for consideration and decision before implementation.
In Bac Ninh, information spread on social networks is that 99 communes and wards are currently arranged and merged into 34 units, along with the new names of the communes after arrangement.
The Department of Home Affairs of Bac Ninh province affirmed that the disseminated information is false and inaccurate.
The Department of Home Affairs is the standing agency, assigned by the Provincial People's Committee to tasks related to the arrangement, separation, and establishment of new administrative units. Since the operation of the 2-level local government, the Department of Home Affairs has not developed any projects related to the continued merger of communes and wards in the province.
Currently, Bac Ninh province has 99 commune-level administrative units, including 66 communes and 33 wards.
Previously in Lao Cai, before information spread on some social networking platforms about the province's arrangement of commune-level administrative units from 99 units to 34 units, functional agencies affirmed that this is unverified content, not reflecting the reality of implementing the policy of arranging administrative units.
