The Canh Tang Reservoir Project with a total investment of VND 4,128 billion, started in August 2019, is an irrigation project of national scale, on par with large lakes such as Dau Tieng, Cua Dat, Ngan Truoi, Ta Trach, Cam Son. The lake has a capacity of more than 91 million m3 of water.
When put into use, Canh Tang Lake will provide irrigation water for over 6,400 hectares of cultivated land of 13 communes in Lac Son and Yen Thuy districts (old Hoa Binh province) and supplement 2.0m3/s of water in the dry season for downstream.
In addition, the lake also provides irrigation water for 2,500 hectares of agriculture in Thach Thanh (Thanh Hoa) and the 200ha Lac Thinh industrial park (in Yen Thuy district, the old Hoa Binh province).
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Duc Thang - Acting Minister of Agriculture and Environment emphasized that Canh Tang reservoir is a key irrigation project of strategic significance for water security, sustainable agricultural development and ensuring stable lives for people.
The project is not only an irrigation infrastructure but also a "shield" against natural disasters, a resource for multi-sectoral development, agricultural restructuring, contributing to regulating floods during the rainy season, maintaining the flow flow during the dry season...
At the same time, it will ensure the security of tens of thousands of people in Phu Tho and Thanh Hoa provinces, opening up opportunities to develop tourism and services on the lake's water surface and neighboring areas.
In the coming time, in order for the project to be exploited and put into use with the highest efficiency, Mr. Tran Duc Thang suggested that agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment continue to closely coordinate with units in Phu Tho province to organize the handover of 2 clusters of works in accordance with regulations to ensure safety.
