On the morning of November 11, local time, within the framework of an official visit to the Republic of Chile, at the National Assembly headquarters in Santiago, President Luong Cuong met with President of the Chilean Senate Jose Garcia Ruminot.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Chilean Senate warmly welcomed President Luong Cuong to visit the National Assembly headquarters in the capital Santiago; emphasized the significance and importance of the visit, affirming that the visit of the Vietnamese President will create momentum to deepen and elevate the comprehensive partnership between the two countries on all channels of State, Parliament and people-to-people diplomacy.
President Luong Cuong expressed his pleasure at his first official visit to Chile. President Luong Cuong affirmed that in implementing the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization of relations, and proactive international integration, Vietnam always attaches importance to developing friendly relations and cooperation in all aspects with Latin American countries, in which Chile holds an important position. Vietnam always remembers the solidarity and valuable support of the Chilean people for Vietnam in the resistance war for national independence and reunification, as well as in the cause of national development today. Through this visit, Vietnam hopes to further deepen the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries, in substance and effectiveness, and towards raising the level of relations in the coming time.
The President of the Chilean Senate assessed that the Vietnam-Chile relationship in general and the parliamentary relationship between the two countries in recent times have continued to develop strongly, substantially and effectively in the fields of politics - diplomacy, economics - trade, security - defense, investment, education, agriculture, justice... In particular, the two sides maintain regular exchanges of delegations and high-level contacts.
The President of the Chilean Senate expressed his delight that two-way trade turnover continues to be a bright spot in bilateral relations, reaching more than 1.3 billion USD in the first 9 months of 2024; in which, Chile continues to be Vietnam's 4th largest trading partner in Latin America and Vietnam is Chile's largest trading partner in ASEAN.
President Luong Cuong affirmed that strengthening parliamentary relations is one of the important pillars of the two countries' diplomacy, contributing to promoting the Vietnam-Chile bilateral relationship in general as well as establishing and implementing a favorable legal corridor between the two countries in particular; he hopes and supports the two countries' National Assemblies to continue to strengthen cooperation through promoting exchanges between the two Friendship Parliamentary Groups and exchanges of parliamentary delegations at all levels, coordinating activities at the Inter-Parliamentary Union forums, the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), etc.
The President suggested that the National Assemblies of both sides strengthen cooperation and promote their roles in supporting initiatives, agreements and cooperation treaties signed between the Governments, ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries to perfect the bilateral cooperation framework, thereby contributing to consolidating and further developing the Comprehensive Partnership.
