On September 25, in Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang), the opening ceremony of the Phu Quoc City Defense Area Exercise 2024 was held. The exercise took place over 2 days, September 25 and 26, with the theme: Moving armed forces into combat readiness states, moving localities into defense states; organizing preparations and practicing defensive operations.
Speaking at the opening of the exercise, Mr. Lam Minh Thanh - Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee - emphasized that, in the face of the complicated political and economic situation in the world and the region; in the country and in the province, hostile forces and reactionary organizations continue to sabotage on many fronts. They take advantage of cyberspace to distort, incite disorder and riots, always looking for ways to intervene and ready to launch an aggressive war when the opportunity arises. Therefore, with the important strategic position of Phu Quoc City, this exercise will help local Party committees and authorities to heighten their vigilance and be ready to deal with any situation that may arise.
Mr. Lam Minh Thanh affirmed that building a defense zone is the strategic policy of our Party and State on building a national defense, a national defense posture associated with a people's security posture, and is the development of Vietnamese military art to create potential, forces and a national posture. Building internal strength to prevent and defeat the sabotage plots of hostile forces and wars of invasion from the outside.
In order for the exercise to be successful and achieve the set goals and requirements, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province requested that collectives and individuals prepare well the content of the meetings during the exercise, adhere to the exercise schedule as determined, comply with the time, speak with focus, key points, and have clear and specific solutions. When practicing the exercise in many different locations in the hall and in the field, the forces need to have close coordination to avoid overlap. Carry out the work of securing records and documents in accordance with regulations. Ensure absolute safety in all aspects before, during and after the exercise.
After the opening ceremony, the drill proceeded to practice operating the mechanism according to the schedule. The drill had two contents: A2 drill to handle situations where large crowds of protesters disrupt security and order; infantry battalion drill to strengthen attacks on the enemy's defense.
Phu Quoc is located in the southwest sea of the country, with sea areas adjacent to Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia with more than 40 large and small islands. Phu Quoc islands are all covered with forests, with important road routes around the island, sea routes, and air routes domestically, regionally and internationally.
Phu Quoc City has a strategic position in the task of protecting the Fatherland in the South and Southwest because it is located in the area with the sea border in the extreme Southwest of our country. The City Party Committee always identifies socio-economic development associated with maintaining national defense and security as one of the top priorities in the overall development of the island city.
