Rach Gia - Phu Quoc ferry resumes operation after 6 days of suspension

NGUYÊN ANH |

At noon on September 20, Kien Giang Maritime Port Authority announced that this afternoon, trains and ferries from Rach Gia to Phu Quoc (and vice versa) were allowed to resume operations.

After 6 days of suspension due to bad weather and strong winds at sea, this afternoon the Rach Gia - Phu Quoc route (and vice versa) has resumed operations. The Rach Gia - Nam Du route (and vice versa) is still suspended.

According to ticket agents, the number of passengers traveling from the mainland to Phu Quoc has been quite high in recent days due to the temporary suspension of ferries. However, yesterday (September 19), the Phu Quoc - Ha Tien route (and vice versa) resumed operations, which has somewhat solved the problem of passengers needing to travel.

Ms. Phu Bich Van - owner of a ferry ticket agency in Phu Quoc City - said that in the past few days, many customers have called to ask continuously. Today, when they received news that the ferry was running again, they quickly bought tickets to go immediately. Many customers wanted to go straight from Rach Gia to Phu Quoc or vice versa, instead of going around Ha Tien, so they waited for the ferry on this route.

Ms. Tran Ngoc Thao - a passenger - said: "The ferry from Rach Gia to Phu Quoc is running again, it is more convenient for me, saves time and the travel distance is shorter. Yesterday, the Phu Quoc - Ha Tien route was running again, but if I send goods, having to travel many stages from Rach Gia to Ha Tien and then take the ferry to Phu Quoc will be more expensive and inconvenient than going directly, so I waited."

According to the forecast of the Kien Giang Hydrometeorological Station, the weather in Kien Giang mainland will have rain, showers in many places and thunderstorms in some places. The southwest wind will be level 2, level 3, sometimes level 4. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.

Rach Gia - Phu Quoc and Tho Chau sea areas have scattered showers and thunderstorms, light rain, moderate rain, and heavy rain in some places. Strong southwest wind level 4, level 5, gusting to level 6, level 7 in thunderstorms.

Previously, on September 15, Kien Giang Maritime Port Authority said that due to bad weather, gusts of wind at level 7 and level 8, the weather at sea turned bad, ferries from the mainland to Phu Quoc, Nam Du and vice versa temporarily suspended operations until further notice.
