On December 30, the People's Council of Kien Giang province held its 31st session (regular year-end session) to discuss and evaluate the socio-economic development situation in 2024 and decide on many important issues in socio-economic development in 2025. At this session, the People's Council will review and give opinions on 55 contents of reports, submissions, and draft resolutions.
Mr. Lam Minh Thanh - Chairman of the People's Council of Kien Giang province - said that this is a very important meeting when the locality has just completed key leadership positions, preparing for the 12th Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030. At this meeting, the Provincial People's Council will discuss and decide on many issues; especially the goals and tasks of socio-economic development in 2025 with the spirit of "breakthrough, acceleration"; mechanisms and policies to strengthen national defense - security, further improve people's lives.
In 2024, the socio-economic situation of Kien Giang province has developed quite well, with economic growth reaching 7.5% over the same period. Notably, Kien Giang achieved and exceeded all 24/24 targets assigned by the People's Council. In particular, the tourism sector achieved impressive results when the total number of tourists increased by 15.6%, international visitors increased by more than 70%, and total revenue increased by 43.8% over the same period.
According to the assessment of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, a number of policies to support enterprises to restore production have been effective, especially policies on tax support, social insurance, and labor support, which have helped enterprises maintain and stabilize production, and the consumption market has gradually stabilized. In implementing the 24 targets assigned by the People's Council, 24/24 targets have been achieved and exceeded the plan.
In 2025, Kien Giang sets out 10 important tasks and solutions to achieve an economic growth rate of 7.5% or higher; GRDP per capita reaches 87.3 million VND/person; the urbanization rate of the whole province reaches 41.45%; total budget revenue reaches more than 18,600 billion VND; total social development investment capital reaches 48,000 billion VND; the growth rate of agricultural - forestry - fishery production value reaches 2.6%, industry reaches 13%...
