This afternoon (October 30), the Central Internal Affairs Committee held an announcement of the results of the standing meeting of the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity chaired by General Secretary To Lam - Head of the Steering Committee - in the morning of the same day.
The announcement was chaired by: Mr. Nguyen Huu Dong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission; Mr. Dang Van Dung - Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission; Major General Hoang Anh Tuyen - Deputy Chief of Office of the Ministry of Public Security, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security; Mr. Tong Van Thanh - Director of the Press and Publishing Department, Central Propaganda Department.
At the announcement, Mr. Dang Van Dung - Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee - informed that since the 26th meeting of the Steering Committee (August 14) up to now, the authorities have made many efforts, tried, closely coordinated, and strictly implemented the conclusions of the meetings of the Steering Committee and the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee.
The progress of inspection, examination, auditing, investigation, and handling of cases and incidents was basically completed according to the Steering Committee's plan, with some exceeding the set requirements.
The Central Inspection Commission has focused on inspecting and directing inspections of party organizations and party members related to the cases at Phuc Son Group and Thuan An Group; and completed inspections related to AIC Company.
Through inspection, 247 party organizations and 441 party members were handled and recommended to be handled, and 26 cases were transferred to the investigation agency for handling according to authority.
The Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Central Inspection Commission have disciplined six senior officials under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat, bringing the total number of senior officials disciplined since the beginning of the year to 52.
Of these, 48 officials were disciplined due to their involvement in cases and incidents under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee.
Prosecution agencies nationwide have prosecuted and investigated 734 cases/1,681 defendants, prosecuted 591 cases/1,479 defendants, and tried 1,002 cases/2,703 defendants at first instance for economic and official corruption crimes.
In particular, the cases and incidents under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee have concluded the investigation of 4 cases/58 defendants; concluded the additional investigation of 1 case/9 defendants; issued indictments to prosecute 4 cases/52 defendants; tried at first instance 3 cases/290 defendants; and tried at appeal 3 cases/12 defendants.
Initiate 1 new case/5 defendants, prosecute 22 more defendants in a number of cases; including 3 defendants who are senior officials under the management of the Politburo and Secretariat; complete the first instance trial of 2 key cases of special public interest according to the Steering Committee's plan, including the case related to SCB Bank, Van Thinh Phat (phase 2), and the vehicle inspection case.
The Government Inspectorate has issued a conclusion on the inspection of the conversion of land use purposes from production and business land of state-owned enterprises and equitized enterprises to real estate business in the period from 2011-2019 at the request of the Steering Committee.
Through the inspection, it was recommended to handle the responsibility of many violating groups and individuals, and transfer 8 cases with signs of crime to the investigation agency.
Localities have initiated 656 new cases/1,367 defendants for corruption, economic and position crimes, including 169 cases/347 defendants for corruption crimes. The total number of newly initiated corruption cases in localities from the beginning of 2024 to present is 613 cases/1,350 defendants (an increase of more than 70 cases compared to the same period last year).
Authorities continue to detect and strictly handle many corrupt and negative cadres and party members in agencies with the function of preventing and combating corruption and negative acts.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 160 officials in these agencies have been criminally prosecuted for corruption and negativity.
