The Government Office has just issued Official Dispatch No. 8452/VPCP-CN dated August 20, 2026 to the Ministries of Construction, Finance, Public Security, and National Defense, conveying the opinion of Politburo Member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc on strengthening the work of ensuring civil aviation traffic safety.
The official dispatch stated: On August 17, 2026, the Ministry of Construction issued document No. 80/BXD-VT&ATGT reporting on the incident of flight VN34 of Vietnam Airlines Corporation occurring on August 15, 2026 at Munich International Airport.
Regarding this matter, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc assigned the Ministry of Construction to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Finance to urgently direct relevant agencies and units to closely coordinate with the Authorities to investigate the incident and accident of the aircraft of the Federal Republic of Germany in the process of investigating and evaluating issues related to the incident.
Strictly implement the provisions of Vietnamese law and international treaties and regulations related to the investigation of aircraft incidents and accidents; proactively monitor and firmly grasp the situation, developments and investigation results, and report to the Prime Minister to clarify the causes, responsibilities, and handling solutions.
At the same time, directing a comprehensive review of operating procedures, maintenance work, aircraft technical inspection, training and performance of flight crews; immediately implement necessary measures to ensure absolute safety of operations, in case problems are detected that may affect operational safety, immediate handling measures must be taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
In addition, ensure the legitimate rights and interests and provide full support to affected passengers; proactively provide objective, complete and timely information to the mass media, avoiding causing public confusion.
The Ministry of Public Security, according to its assigned functions and tasks, coordinates with the Ministry of Construction and relevant agencies in exchanging and verifying necessary information to serve the work of ensuring aviation security and safety and handling incidents according to regulations.
Previously, according to a report by Vietnam Airlines, flight VN34 on August 15 from Munich to Hanoi took off at 1:57 pm local time, i.e. 6:57 pm Vietnam time. After taking off, the system appeared a warning related to the tail of the plane colliding with the runway and tire pressure.
The flight crew informed the air traffic controller, and then decided to return to Munich airport for technical inspection. The plane landed safely, all 271 passengers and 16 crew members were taken to the terminal by stairs.
The plane was then taken to the parking lot for inspection, evaluation and investigation. On the afternoon of August 16, Vietnam Airlines arranged alternative routes for all passengers on the airline's flights and some other airlines.
