At the regular press conference on the afternoon of August 20, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang answered reporters' questions about information that Pakistan arrested 230 people on charges of participating in a phone scam center in Islamabad, including 170 Vietnamese citizens.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that, according to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan, the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pakistan National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency have recently temporarily detained a number of Vietnamese citizens on suspicion of violating regulations on residence and labor.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan urgently worked with local authorities to verify the incident, find out information about the identity of the detainees and take necessary citizen protection measures.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan to continue to closely coordinate with local functional agencies, closely monitor the incident, and request to ensure security and safety for Vietnamese citizens.
At the same time, closely coordinate with domestic functional agencies to verify personal information and continue to implement appropriate and timely protection measures, in accordance with local laws," Ms. Pham Thu Hang said.
