According to VNA, at noon on November 21, 2024, at the Prime Minister's Office in the administrative capital Putrajaya, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife hosted a solemn welcoming ceremony for General Secretary To Lam and his wife on an official visit to Malaysia from November 21-23, 2024.
Previously, at 11:00 a.m. on November 21 (local time), or 10:00 a.m. (Hanoi time), General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to begin an official visit to Malaysia.
Welcoming General Secretary To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation at the airport, on the Malaysian side were Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang and his wife; Director General of Protocol Datuk Rozainor bin Ramli; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Vietnam Dato' Tan Yang Thai; Director General of the CLMV and Oceania Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ismail bin Mohamad Bkri.
On the Vietnamese side, there were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Malaysia Dinh Ngoc Linh; a number of Embassy officials and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Malaysia.
Vietnam and Malaysia established diplomatic relations on March 30, 1973. The bilateral relationship continues to develop well on the basis of the Strategic Partnership established in August 2015. The two sides regularly exchange delegations, hold high-level contacts at all channels and levels, and effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms.
Economic and trade relations between the two countries have developed positively. Malaysia is Vietnam's second largest trade and investment partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Vietnam is Malaysia's third largest trading partner in ASEAN with two-way trade reaching 12.7 billion USD in 2023. Cooperation in other areas such as defense - security, labor, education, culture, tourism, people-to-people exchange, etc. has achieved many positive results.
Besides, the two countries coordinate closely at ASEAN and multilateral forums, sharing views and strategic interests on most regional and international issues.
Currently, there are more than 1,000 Vietnamese students studying in Malaysia in the fields of IT, biotechnology, linguistics, psychology, etc. Every year, Malaysia provides scholarship programs for Vietnamese officials within the framework of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP).
There are currently about 40,000 Vietnamese people living, working or married to settle in Malaysia. In addition, Vietnam and Malaysia signed a Government-level tourism cooperation agreement in 1994 and the two countries are always among each other's top tourist sending markets...
The official visit to Malaysia by General Secretary To Lam, his wife and the high-ranking delegation of the Party and State is of great significance in implementing the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress and the Party and State's documents on foreign affairs.
The visit is an important milestone in the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship, contributing to consolidating the foundation of political trust between the two countries, demonstrating the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam to always attach importance to and wish to further strengthen relations with neighboring and regional countries, including Malaysia.
