On August 4 (local time), within the framework of the State visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation visited the headquarters of the Arab League.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting, General Secretary Ahmedaboul Gheit expressed his gratitude and emphasized the historical significance of the first visit to the headquarters of the Vietnamese Arab League, demonstrating Vietnam's respect for the federation as well as the strong and long-standing historical link between the Vietnamese people and the Arab ethnic groups.
The General Secretary believes that the struggle of the Vietnamese people is not only a milestone in Vietnam's history but also the pride of brotherly peoples around the world; emphasizing that Vietnam can be proud of the history of the struggle for national liberation and can be even more proud of the outstanding development achievements in recent times.
The General Secretary affirmed that no word can fully express my admiration for President Ho Chi Minh, who did not mind difficulties to find a way for the Vietnamese people.
President Luong Cuong expressed his pleasure at visiting the headquarters of the Arab League for the first time. The President highly appreciated the role and active contributions of the federation in maintaining peace, stability and development in the Middle East - Africa and the world; believed that the Arab League will continue to achieve more achievements in building a united, prosperous and developing community in all fields.
The President affirmed that Vietnam wishes to develop better, more substantial and effective relations with the Arab League and all members, most of whom are traditional friends and important economic partners of Vietnam.
The President suggested that Vietnam and member countries of the Arab League further strengthen political and diplomatic relations, constantly strengthen the close, affectionate and trusting relationship between Vietnam and member countries of the federation; the two sides actively implement the signed cooperation programs, especially the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Secretariat of the Arab League.
The President also suggested that Vietnam and member countries of the Arab League strengthen consultations, close coordination and mutual support in multilateral mechanisms, especially at the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Agreeing with the General Secretary's proposal to promote cooperation between the Arab League and ASEAN, the President affirmed that Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge connecting the Arab League with the ASEAN region.
General Secretary Ahmed Aboul Gheit affirmed that the Arab League and its member countries attach importance to the comprehensive cooperative relationship with Vietnam, thanked Vietnam for its balanced viewpoint, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter on international issues, including supporting the just cause of the Palestinian people.
The General Secretary affirmed that within his capacity, he will strive to promote relations between Vietnam and the Federation and further deepen the relationship between Vietnam and 22 member countries of the Federation.
