On August 2, answering a reporter's question asking about Vietnam's reaction to the information in the report of the National Federation of missing and retired soldiers' families in Southeast Asia on humanitarian cooperation activities to search for and inventory missing US soldiers during the war in Vietnam (MIA), Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Thu Hang stated: "This is distorted and untrue information and we strongly object".
Ms. Pham Thu Hang emphasized: "The humanitarian cooperation activity to search for and inventory missing US soldiers in war in Vietnam (MIA) has been actively and effectively implemented by the governments of Vietnam and the US over the past 50 years, helping thousands of remains of US soldiers to be identified and returned to their families.
This is a very meaningful result, contributing to promoting cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war between the two countries and is a vivid demonstration of the spirit of humanity, contributing to building and strengthening trust and friendship between Vietnam and the US.
The effectiveness of Vietnam's MIA cooperation has always been recognized and highly appreciated by the US, considering it a model in international relations".
"In the coming time, the two countries will continue to cooperate fully in this field in accordance with the spirit of the Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam - US relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development" - said the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.
