Responding to the initiative of the 79th United Nations General Assembly President - Ambassador Philemon Yang, on August 1, 2025, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong issued a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam informed.
This online event was attended by speeches from General Assembly President Philemon Yang, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and most heads of state and government of United Nations member states.
In the message, President Luong Cuong affirmed that over the past 80 years, the United Nations have lit up the belief and hope for long-term peace and sustainable development of all countries and peoples, helping to prove the importance and strong vitality of multilateralism and affirming its irreplaceable role in realizing humanity's aspiration for a better world built on the foundation of common values - national independence, national sovereignty, fairness and social progress.
The President said that in the context of increasingly complex and unpredictable international and regional situations and the world facing fundamental changes of the times, countries need to make efforts to support multilateralism, strengthen international cooperation and solidarity, comply with international law and the United Nations Charter, especially the principles of respect for sovereign independence and territorial integrity, not interfere in internal affairs, not use force or threaten to use force and resolve disputes by peaceful means.
The President stated that this is the time for the United Nations to reform strongly to better adapt to the new context, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency in implementing its missions.
On this occasion, President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam will continue to be a trusted partner, an active and responsible member, accompanying the United Nations and the international community in solving difficulties, overcoming challenges, jointly promoting peace, stability, cooperation and prosperous development in each country, region and around the world, bringing happiness and prosperity to all people.
The message of President Luong Cuong and heads of State and Government of United Nations member states will continue to be presented at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, USA from now on to the 80th United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.
