On April 28, the People's Council of Long An province held a consultation conference on the arrangement of administrative units in Long An province. Attending were former leaders of the Provincial People's Council through different periods; former leaders of the People's Councils of districts, towns and cities; along with representatives of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Provincial People's Committee; Standing Committee of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; relevant departments, agencies, units and localities.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Mr. Mai Van Nhieu - Vice Chairman in charge of Long An Provincial People's Council - said that the development of the project and draft Resolution on the arrangement of administrative units at the provincial and commune levels has been implemented by the provincial People's Committee and relevant agencies to ensure the order, procedures and time in accordance with the spirit of the Central Government.
Up to now, 15/15 People's Councils of districts, towns, cities and 186/186 People's Councils of communes, wards and towns in Long An province have met and issued Resolutions with opinions approving the policy of arranging administrative units in Long An and Tay Ninh provinces; approving the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units. Through collecting opinions from voters representing households in the province, 98.03% agreed with the merger of Long An and Tay Ninh provinces; 97.92% agreed with the arrangement of commune-level administrative units in the province (from 186 communes, wards and towns to 56 communes and 4 wards).

At the conference, the delegates commented that in the arrangement, it is necessary to pay attention to the issue of handling of current administrative boundaries to towards the future of sustainable development and for the practical benefits of the people; The name should be easy to identify, brief, easy to read, easy to remember and promote the comparative advantage of the locality, in accordance with the integration trend.
According to the delegates, the determination of the location of the new political -administrative center of the commune after arranging must have a favorable location, the socio -economic infrastructure of the synchronous synchronous, especially the development of the transportation system, easy to connect, with future development space, in accordance with the socio -economic development orientation of the new administrative unit, to ensure harmony, rationality, to avoid the balance of national security and maintenance. Delegates also proposed to have a plan to handle the redundant headquarters after the appropriate and effective merger, avoiding wastefulness, giving priority to public purposes for the local community ...
The opinions of the delegates were received, recorded, and compiled by the Provincial People's Council to complete the review report and related documents, reported and submitted to the Provincial People's Council for approval at the 24th session (3rd thematic session in 2025) to be held on April 29, 2025.
At this session, it is expected that the Provincial People's Council will review and approve many important contents on socio-economic development, government building; especially giving opinions on the policy of arranging provincial and commune-level administrative units in Long An province.
