On December 25, in Hanoi, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese held a workshop on “65 years of connecting overseas Vietnamese with the country and 20 years of implementing Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW of the Politburo on work with overseas Vietnamese”.
Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son attended, spoke at the workshop and on behalf of the Party and State leaders awarded the First Class Labor Medal (for the second time) to the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.
Speaking at the workshop, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasized that the workshop took place at a very meaningful time when our entire nation is striving to fulfill the goals of the 13th Party Congress, creating a solid foundation to enter a new era for the nation.
The year 2024 marks an important milestone when Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW marks the 20th anniversary of its promulgation. This is a document of historical significance, of special importance and long-term strategic significance, demonstrating our Party's innovative and breakthrough thinking on the role and importance of the overseas Vietnamese community, while being imbued with the tradition of humanity and tolerance of our nation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son outlined a number of orientations to promote the implementation of work for overseas Vietnamese in the coming time, including transforming into action so that the correct policies of the Party and State on overseas Vietnamese bring about concrete and practical results for the country and the overseas Vietnamese community.
At the workshop, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang - Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese - reviewed the outstanding achievements of work for overseas Vietnamese in recent years, especially since Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW was issued on March 26, 2004.
Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that Resolution 36 is considered a turning point in the work of national unity and reconciliation. The breakthrough and open-minded ideas of the Resolution demonstrate the vision and innovative thinking of our Party. Resolution 36 has contributed to unlocking the resources of overseas Vietnamese, encouraging them to actively contribute to the country's development.
“It can be affirmed that after 20 years of implementation, Resolution 36 has created a major turning point and comprehensive transformation in all aspects of work for overseas Vietnamese. The Resolution has a long-lasting vitality, is deeply contemporary and continues to be a guideline in implementing work for overseas Vietnamese," Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Dy Nien - former Minister of Foreign Affairs - recalled the time when he was Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, and his concerns about how to integrate with the region and the world at that time. He emphasized that Resolution 36 on work with overseas Vietnamese was a continuous effort of many previous generations.
Mr. Nguyen Dy Nien said that, in the current period, it is necessary to continue thinking to make Resolution 36 more vital because the new situation is making higher demands on the entire country and the Vietnamese community abroad.
According to the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, the foreign policy has brought about great results, helping Vietnam gain an unprecedented position in history. This is an extremely valuable asset and we must seize the opportunity to develop the country, so as not to be at fault with the people.
