On the afternoon of June 22, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a national conference to summarize the National Target Program on New Rural Development, the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the Movement "The whole country joins hands to build new rural areas", the Movement "For the poor - No one is left behind" for the period 2021-2025.
In his opening speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that agriculture is the pillar of the economy.
We take farmers as the center, agriculture as the driving force, and rural areas as the foundation. The majority of Vietnamese people live in rural areas, the number of workers working in agricultural areas accounts for a large proportion" - the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister affirmed that during the COVID-19 pandemic and after the pandemic with long-term consequences, if there is no agriculture, it will be difficult to maintain macroeconomic stability, control inflation, and promote growth.
At the same time, it ensures major balances of the economy, especially ensuring food - provisions in difficult times.
Along with that, the Prime Minister emphasized the role of the rice civilization, the contribution and mark of the agricultural and rural areas to the Vietnamese national culture.
At the conference, the Prime Minister asked delegates to evaluate the implementation results, share good, creative, typical ways of doing things, models, etc.
The Prime Minister also said that ensuring the rural environment, associated with eliminating outdated customs, such as ensuring clean water, hygienic toilets, etc., are very important issues that need to be discussed further to do better.
At the conference, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy said that the results of implementing 02 National Target Programs continue to affirm the correct policies of the Party and State, with high consensus from the people, promoting the development of ecological agriculture, modern rural areas, and civilized farmers.
Regarding the program orientation for the 2026-2035 period, Minister Do Duc Duy stated the goal of building modern, comprehensive, sustainable new rural areas that are adapted to climate change.
Promote rural economic development in the direction of promoting the application of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.
Improve income, quality of life and access to essential services for rural people, gradually approaching the urban living standard.
Building green, clean, beautiful, safe rural areas with strong cultural identity; ensuring social security, rapid and sustainable poverty reduction; maintaining national defense, security, social order and safety; forming a civilized, humane, connected and happy rural community.
Strive for an average income per capita in rural areas to increase by at least 2.5 times compared to 2020; no more poor households according to the multidimensional poverty standard for the period 2022-2025.
