On the afternoon of July 29, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son had a meeting with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa in Bangkok, Thailand, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two sides expressed their delight at the positive development of Vietnam-Thailand relations, especially the fact that the two sides have officially upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; assessed that political and diplomatic relations are increasingly close and trustworthy; economic, trade and investment cooperation continues to be a solid pillar; cooperation in other important areas such as science and technology, tourism, education and training, culture, transportation and people-to-people exchange... continues to achieve many new achievements.
Recalling the meeting at the 58th ASEAN Ministers' Conference in Malaysia in early July 2025, the two Ministers reaffirmed their determination to implement the results achieved at the 4th Vietnam - Thailand General cabinet meeting (May 5, 2025); promptly developing an Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2026 - 2030 with specific substantive contents; promoting the early establishment of a Joint Working Group to discuss specific plans to implement the "Three Connectivity" Strategy; effectively exploiting new areas with great potential such as science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, digital economy, green economy, renewable energy, and energy transformation.
The Thai Foreign Minister assessed that economic, trade and investment cooperation has always been a bright spot in bilateral relations; thanked and suggested that Vietnam continue to facilitate and care about removing obstacles for Thai businesses investing and doing business in Vietnam. The two sides also agreed to encourage businesses of the two countries to expand business and investment; facilitate market access for goods of the two countries, strive to soon bring two-way trade turnover to 25 billion USD in a more balanced and sustainable direction.
The two Ministers agreed to coordinate the implementation of new methods to promote tourism cooperation, including initiatives to connect tourism in the ASEAN region; emphasized the importance of strengthening the solidarity between localities of the two countries, promoting people-to-people exchanges and promoting the role of a bridge of friendship of the Vietnamese-Vietnamese community in Thailand in developing the Vietnam - Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa shared the results of the talks between the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand and the Prime Minister of Cambodia in Putrajaya, chaired by the Prime Minister of Malaysia as ASEAN Chair 2025, on July 28.; said that the two sides had reached a ceasefire agreement, starting from July 29.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son welcomed Thailand and Cambodia for reaching a ceasefire agreement; said that Vietnam is very interested in the developments of the situation; affirmed that Thailand and Cambodia are both close friends of Vietnam; hoped that the two sides would restrain themselves, not use force, peacefully and appropriately resolve disagreements based on the basic principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the ASEAN Friendship and Cooperation Treaty in Southeast Asia (TAC); expressed Vietnam's readiness to play a positive role in helping the two countries implement the ceasefire and cooperation in the spirit of friendship and ASEAN solidarity, for the long-term interests of both sides and the region.
