On April 23, the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee held a conference to discuss the project to reorganize commune-level administrative units. Accordingly, the province continued to adjust and reduce 10 more communes and wards compared to the original plan, from 88 to 78 units, reaching a reduction rate of 66.52%.
Hoi An city alone will keep the number of 4 administrative units as before, but has changed its name in the direction of linking with local names. Specifically, 4 new units will include: Hoi An ward, Hoi An Dong ward, Hoi An Tay ward and Tan Hiep commune.

From April 21 to 23, Quang Nam province will conduct a second public consultation on the names of administrative units after the reorganization. According to information from the Provincial Party Committee's Organizing Committee, most voters agreed with the new name. However, there are still some opinions suggesting adjusting the names in some localities.
In Hoi An, a part of voters recommended keeping traditional names, imbued with local cultural identity such as: Pho Co ward - Hoi An, Thanh Chau ward - Hoi An, Thanh Ha ward - Hoi An, Tan Hiep commune - Hoi An.

In Thang Binh district, voters have not agreed with names such as Cho Duoc commune or Binh Duong commune. Meanwhile, voters of Dien Ban town propose to rename a number of new wards such as: Dien Nam Thanh ward, Dien Ban Dong ward; Dien Ngoc Thanh Ward, Dien Ban Bac Ward; Dien Thang Ward into An Thang Ward; Dien Tien Thanh Ward, Dien Ban Tay Ward
Previously, the Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 46 on the arrangement of 233 commune-level administrative units down to 88. However, to meet the requirements of the streamlining ratio, the final figure was adjusted to 78 units.
On April 21, the Provincial Party Committee also issued a resolution on naming the new administrative unit. Accordingly, instead of using consecutive numbers or directions (Dong, Tay, Nam, Bac...), most of the names are chosen based on historical factors, cultural traditions, expressing the unique identity of each land.
Many familiar places have been brought back to the administrative map such as: Go Noi (Dien Ban town); Ban Thach (Tam Ky city); Thuong Duc (Dai Loc district); Viet An (Hiep Duc district); A Vuong, Ben Hien (Dong Giang district);
The renaming is a proposal of the people to achieve high consensus and the desire to preserve the identity of the homeland during the process of streamlining the administrative apparatus.
