In the afternoon of August 25, Mr. Le Hong Vinh - Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee - received and worked with Ms. Jennifer Wicks - US Ambassador to Vietnam.
At the meeting, leaders of Quang Tri province introduced an overview of the locality after the merger.
Mr. Le Hong Vinh said that Quang Tri has identified 4 strategic breakthroughs including energy, green - clean agriculture, tourism and logistics.
The province hopes that the US Ambassador will connect US businesses in fields such as heavy industry, technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and new materials to explore opportunities, cooperate in investment and development in the locality.
According to the Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, the locality still faces challenges in overcoming the consequences of war, including bombs, mines, explosives and chemical toxins. In recent years, the US and organizations have supported Quang Tri in clearing bombs, mines, explosives and handling environmental issues.
However, to date, there are still explosives left, posing a potential risk to people during labor.
Mr. Le Hong Vinh hoped that after this working trip, when there is more information, data and strategic orientations, Ambassador Jennifer Wicks will continue to return to Quang Tri for the two sides to exchange more deeply on economic development issues.
At the working session, Ms. Jennifer Wicks said she gave high priority to the Quang Tri business trip due to the historical relationship in cooperation between the locality and the US, especially in overcoming the consequences of the war.
The US Ambassador said that one of the focuses in the coming time is to strengthen trade cooperation, promote economic development and trade between Vietnam and the US, including people-to-people relations and cooperation in various fields.
Ms. Jennifer Wicks highly appreciated the coordination of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee with cooperation programs, including the Pacific Friends and Pacific Partnership program in June 2026, with the participation of Acting Navy Minister My Hung Cao at the opening ceremony.
According to the US Ambassador, these activities contribute to strengthening relations between the two sides, while improving Vietnam's emergency rescue and disaster prevention capacity.
Ms. Jennifer Wicks affirmed that war recovery programs are one of the foundations of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and committed to continuing to promote projects in this field during her term.
The US Ambassador to Vietnam also said that the US will continue to accompany Vietnam in the 500 days and nights operation to search for missing soldiers, and is ready to share technology and professional knowledge in the coming time.
