Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said that the shortage of medicine and medical supplies has many causes, including the fear of purchasing by medical facilities.

On the morning of November 12, the National Assembly continued to question the health sector.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long reported and explained further issues of concern to delegates.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in recent times, the health sector has made many efforts and achieved many important results in the work of caring for and protecting people's health, especially in disease prevention.

However, there are still many limitations and shortcomings that cause public outrage, such as the lack of drugs and medical supplies that have not been completely resolved. Some projects are slow to be handled, and there are shortcomings in the management of functional foods and prevention of the harmful effects of tobacco.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the Government and the Prime Minister pay special attention and resolutely direct the Ministry of Health, relevant ministries, agencies and localities to focus on synchronously implementing tasks and solutions to improve the quality of health care and protection for the people.

The Government and the Prime Minister will continue to pay attention and resolutely direct the Ministry of Health, the entire health sector and all levels, sectors and localities to focus on overcoming shortcomings and synchronously and effectively implement solutions to improve the quality of health care work.

Enhance the responsibility of heads of relevant agencies and promptly correct shortcomings in organization and implementation.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that basically, there is enough medicine, supplies and medical equipment. However, there are still local shortages at some public health facilities, especially some special medicines. This situation has many causes, including a shortage of some medicines on the world market at times, and the fear of purchasing by health facilities.

In the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that it is necessary to strictly implement regulations, have specific plans, be more proactive, and strengthen discipline and order in this matter. Strengthen the responsibility for public service management of units under the Ministry of Health and related units, of local leaders, including hospital directors.

Regarding the management of functional foods, the Deputy Prime Minister admitted that there are still shortcomings as mentioned by National Assembly delegates. The Government will continue to direct the strict implementation of requirements and regulations related to all stages, and strengthen coordination between relevant sectors and forces.

Regarding e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that this is an issue that the people of the whole country and public opinion are very concerned about. The Prime Minister has given instructions on this issue, in which he assigned the Ministry of Health to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Justice and relevant agencies to study appropriate management measures to strengthen management of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested that National Assembly delegations, National Assembly deputies, and local leaders at all levels continue to pay attention, contribute opinions, support, and closely coordinate with the health sector to actively handle and resolve issues, so that the health sector is not alone in carrying out the important mission of protecting and caring for people's health assigned by the Party, State, and people.
