On September 9, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the United States of America (July 12, 1995 - July 12, 2025).
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that the effectiveness and substance of the bilateral relationship between the United States and Vietnam are increasingly improved, demonstrated through specific figures.
Along with the 30-year development of Vietnam - US relations, the cooperative relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and US localities has also been continuously consolidated and expanded, making practical contributions to common development.
2025 marks a very special moment, when Vietnam celebrates many important historical milestones of the country, and is also the beginning of a new era.
In that context, the new Ho Chi Minh City - with its expanded scale and strongly increased resources, is urgently creating momentum to enter a period of breakthrough development, towards future strategic goals and visions.
"With a solid foundation of the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with the backbone of friendship and cooperation over 30 years of developing local relations, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to accompany and closely coordinate with the US Consulate General and the US business community and investors to open the next brilliant 30-year period in the relationship between the two sides; especially in strategic cooperation areas such as science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and training of high-quality human resources" - Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized.
Ms. Melissa A. brown - Consul General of the United States in Ho Chi Minh City said that today's event reaffirmed the joint commitment of the two countries to this bilateral relationship. This 30th anniversary marks the beginning of another 30 years of prosperity and increasingly deepening cooperation between the two countries.
The private sector has played a driving force for cooperation between the two countries. From the supply chain to energy, from artificial intelligence (AI) to semiconductors, cooperation between businesses and the two governments has become a stable resource when facing global challenges.
The US government and private sector are committed to becoming a trusted partner of Vietnam to achieve economic goals and enhance prosperity for the two countries.
The focus of the relationship between the two countries is education and people-to-people diplomatic relations. These connections are the foundation for the common future of the two countries.
Vietnam is currently the 8th largest trading partner in the world of the United States. Meanwhile, the United States is Vietnam's second largest trading partner and largest export market.
Two-way trade turnover increased nearly 300 times after 30 years, from about 450 million USD in 1995 to 155 billion USD in 2025.
The United States is one of Vietnam's leading FDI partners and a strategic partner in the fields of science, technology, education and training, innovation, climate change response and energy transition.
