Prime Minister Le Minh Hung works with Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City - On the morning of June 13, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and the Central working delegation visited and worked with Ho Chi Minh City on the socio-economic development situation.

This is the first time Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has worked with Ho Chi Minh City since being elected by the National Assembly to hold the position of head of the Government in April 2026.

According to the program, the Prime Minister attended the launching ceremony of the Emulation Movement "Determined to successfully implement the goal of sustainable double-digit growth in the period 2026 - 2030".

After the launching ceremony, the Prime Minister worked with the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on the socio-economic situation in the first 5 months of 2026, and discussed solutions to promote double-digit economic growth in the coming time.

The content of the working session also focused on the progress of disbursement of public investment capital, operation of the 2-level local government model, implementation of Resolution No. 57 of 2024 of the Politburo, along with issues on social housing development, rental housing and building a special urban law project for Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition, city leaders will report to the Prime Minister on difficulties and obstacles in the development process, and at the same time propose mechanisms and policies to create new momentum for the nation's economic locomotive.

According to the report, in the first 5 months of 2026, Ho Chi Minh City's economy continued to maintain positive growth momentum and closely followed the set scenario. Many key economic indicators recorded a fairly good increase compared to the same period.

Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue reached nearly 800,000 billion VND. The tourism industry continues to recover strongly with revenue of about 193,000 billion VND.

Import and export activities maintained stable growth. Export turnover reached 39.47 billion USD, up 5.3%; imports reached 44.29 billion USD, up 10.8% compared to the same period last year.

The industrial sector continues to play an important growth driving force when the index of industrial production (IIP) increased by 11%. In which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 11.8%, continuing to be the pillar of the city's economy.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) attracted more than 3.8 billion USD, an increase of 20.3% over the same period. Notably, Ho Chi Minh City has 338 science and technology projects with total newly registered and additional capital reaching 420.9 million USD.

In the field of domestic investment, the city has approved investment policies for 14 projects and adjusted capital increases for 8 projects, with a total investment capital of about 170,000 billion VND.

State budget revenue continued to be a bright spot when reaching 401,879 billion VND in the first 5 months of the year, equal to 49.9% of the year's estimate and increasing by 24.3% compared to the same period.
