Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh holds phone talks with Australian Prime Minister

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to discuss with Australia so that the two countries can soon increase trade turnover to 20 billion USD.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on May 6, on the occasion of the Party's victory in the Australian Parliamentary election, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a phone call with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

At the phone call, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh once again congratulated the Party Committee and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese; emphasizing that this victory shows the Australian people's confidence in the leadership and ability to steer the country's stable development of the Party Committee and Prime Minister Albanese.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the strong development of bilateral relations in recent times, including the important contributions and role of Prime Minister Albanese personally; and suggested that the Australian Government continue to allocate resources and pay attention, giving high priority to the Southeast Asian region, including Vietnam.

Discussing a number of key areas of cooperation such as economy, trade, ODA, climate change response and energy transition, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh shared that Vietnam highly appreciated Australia's Southeast Asian Economic Strategy, expressing confidence that with the implementation of this strategy, economic cooperation between Australia and Vietnam will develop more strongly.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two countries maximize multilateral trade frameworks of which both countries are members to overcome common challenges; affirmed that Vietnam is ready to discuss with Australia a bilateral trade and investment cooperation agreement so that the two countries can soon achieve the goal of increasing trade turnover to 20 billion USD and doubling two-way investment; hoping that the Australian Government will continue to pay attention and create conditions for the Vietnamese community in the locality.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his appreciation for the warm congratulations of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and hoped to continue to seriously promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two sides in the coming time.

Prime Minister Albanese shared his admiration for the Party, State, Government and people of Vietnam in quickly making Vietnam one of the leading economic centers in the region.

To respond to current economic and trade challenges, Prime Minister Albanese said that it is necessary to continue to protect a free and open multilateral trading system, promoting market opening for each other's goods and services.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Albanese affirmed that the Australian authorities and leaders wish to soon visit Vietnam; agreed that the two countries need to maintain exchanges through channels and levels, especially the annual high-level meeting between the two Prime Ministers.
