On the afternoon of September 6, the Government Department of Information and Communications said that the Prime Minister had just issued Decision No. 1734/QD-TTg dated September 6, 2026 on temporarily suspending Mr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health, Chairman of the National Medical Council.
The Prime Minister's decision clearly states that Mr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health, Chairman of the National Medical Council will be temporarily suspended from work until a decision from a competent authority is issued.
Previously, the Department of Police for Investigation of Corruption, Economic Crimes, and Smuggling, Ministry of Public Security (Department of Economic Police) was investigating the case "Violating regulations on accounting causing serious consequences and Smuggling" that occurred at Viet My Medical Investment Joint Stock Company and related units and localities.
Based on the results of the expanded investigation of the case, on September 2, 2026, the Economic Police Department issued a Decision supplementing the Decision to prosecute a criminal case; and at the same time issued a Decision to prosecute the accused, an Order to arrest the accused for temporary detention, and an Search Order for Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan for the crime of "Receiving bribes", stipulated in Clause 4, Article 354 of the Penal Code for the act of receiving bribes of a large amount of money.
After the Supreme People's Procuracy approved, the Economic Police Department organized the enforcement of Decisions and Prosecution Orders against Mr. Tran Van Thuan in accordance with legal regulations.
The Economic Police Department is focusing on investigating and clarifying the scale, role, and criminal acts of the defendants and related subjects to expand the investigation, clarify the nature of the case, and thoroughly recover assets for the State.
