Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man congratulated Ms. Jennifer Wicks on being appointed as US Ambassador to Vietnam; expressed his belief that, with a wealth of diplomatic experience and understanding of the region, Ambassador Jennifer Wicks will have a successful term, playing an important bridge to promote the relationship between the two countries to continue to develop strongly.
The National Assembly Chairwoman affirmed that Vietnam always considers the US as one of the top important partners; highly appreciated the outstanding developments of the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all fields in the past time.
The National Assembly Chairwoman expressed her pleasure to see the relationship between the National Assemblies of the two countries continue to be strengthened through delegation exchanges, contacts, and cooperation programs between specialized agencies of the National Assemblies of the two sides, thereby contributing to strengthening understanding, political trust, and narrowing differences; and welcomed the support of both parties in the US Congress for Vietnam-US relations.
The National Assembly Chairwoman requested Ambassador Jennifer Wicks to promote her role as a bridge, coordinate with the Vietnamese side to further promote contact and delegation exchange activities at all levels, especially by senior leaders; promote the creation of a regular and substantive dialogue mechanism between the legislative bodies of the two countries; and inform the Ambassador about some contents discussed at the 1st Extraordinary Session of the 16th National Assembly.
The National Assembly Chairwoman proposed promoting economic cooperation as a focus and driving force to promote bilateral relations; said that the Vietnamese National Assembly is ready to complete the legal framework to create favorable conditions and a transparent investment environment for US businesses to stabilize production and business in Vietnam; and wished the US to soon recognize Vietnam as a market economy. The National Assembly Chairwoman also proposed that the two sides coordinate to strengthen cooperation in new breakthrough fields, especially high-tech, semiconductor, digital transformation, innovation and green energy transformation industries.
Regarding overcoming the consequences of war, the National Assembly Chairwoman emphasized that this is a foundation for building trust, with profound humanitarian significance, accordingly, it is proposed that the two sides continue to prioritize close cooperation in dioxin detoxification, bomb and mine clearance, support for people with disabilities and search for missing soldiers.
Sincerely thanking the Chairman of the National Assembly for taking the time to receive her, Ambassador Jennifer Wicks expressed her honor to take on the position of US Ambassador to Vietnam in the context of strong development of relations between the two countries; committed to continuing to act as a bridge to contribute to further developing Vietnam-US relations in the coming time; said that the US values relations with Vietnam, supports a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam.
Ambassador Jennifer Wicks agreed with the proposals of the Chairman of the National Assembly; said that the achievements of the two countries' relations today have the important contribution of strong relations between the two National Assemblies; highly appreciated the outstanding achievements in cooperation between the two National Assemblies in the past time, including delegation exchanges such as the visit to Vietnam by the delegation of Congressman Michael Baumgartner, member of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee (May 26) and the delegation of Chairman of the US House Committee on Education and Labor Tim Walberg, expected on August 12; expressed her desire for more delegations from the Vietnamese National Assembly to visit and work in the US.
The Ambassador affirmed his readiness to closely coordinate with ministries, branches, agencies, and localities of Vietnam to promote and strengthen delegation exchanges at all levels and channels; agreed that the two sides should soon complete negotiations and sign a reciprocal, fair and balanced trade agreement; emphasized his support for promoting cooperation in emerging fields, in which the US is particularly interested in energy, science and technology, and digital transformation cooperation; agreed and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war.
