The report of the leaders of Tuyen Quang Provincial Party Committee at the meeting showed that from September 6 to 11, the whole province had many heavy rains, the water level of Lo River, Gam River and Nang River rose high causing major floods, inundating many areas. There were losses of people and many properties of the people.
As of September 11, the entire province had 101 isolated flooded areas and many flooded areas causing local traffic jams. Notably, on the evening of September 11, a section of the Lo River dike in Quyet Thang Commune (Son Duong) broke, causing local flooding.
Preliminary statistics show that as of 11am on September 12, Tuyen Quang province had 3 deaths, 3,546 houses affected, 3,989 households evacuated from flood-prone areas. Over 7,000 hectares of rice and crops were damaged and many structures were submerged in water.
Estimated damage is over 500 billion VND, Tuyen Quang province proposed the Government consider supporting about 300 billion VND to support districts and cities to overcome the consequences of floods.
Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his deepest sympathy and condolences for the damage that the people of Tuyen Quang and the northern provinces are suffering due to the circulation of storm No. 3.
General Secretary and President To Lam acknowledged and highly appreciated Tuyen Quang province for being proactive, grasping the situation, promptly giving instructions and implementing measures to prevent, combat and overcome the consequences of storm No. 3. At the same time, he commended the Army and Police forces for promptly supporting to minimize damage caused by storms and floods.
To minimize the damage caused by storms and floods, the General Secretary and President requested Tuyen Quang province to continue to deploy all measures and means in search and rescue for isolated areas. Visit and promptly encourage affected families, especially those who are beneficiaries of social welfare.
"Make efforts to provide, support, and deliver essential necessities to people and arrange adequate safe shelters. Resolutely do not let people lack food, foodstuffs, and safe accommodation. Ensure the means and safety of flood and storm prevention forces," the General Secretary and President emphasized.
Assessing that the natural disaster situation may still become more complicated, the General Secretary and President requested Tuyen Quang province to continue to review areas and residential areas at high risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides to warn and proactively evacuate people to safety. Inspect dyke, lake, and dam works, especially at vulnerable locations.
Previously, General Secretary and President To Lam personally inspected, assessed the situation, visited, encouraged and presented gifts to the forces working to protect the Lo River dike section through Truong Sinh commune (Son Duong). The General Secretary and President requested the forces to ensure absolute safety for the people's lives and property.
The General Secretary and President also visited, encouraged and presented gifts to a number of households in Truong Sinh commune who had to temporarily move out of the dike-break risk area and hoped that people would make efforts to overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives.
