According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a private meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam and Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi agreed to strengthen the traditional relationship between the two Parties, creating a foundation for the development of bilateral relations, through maintaining theoretical research activities, exchanging experiences and supporting staff training.
At the talks, the two sides agreed to increase the exchange of delegations at high and all levels through all channels of the Party, State, National Assembly, ministries, sectors and localities to enhance and consolidate political trust, as a basis for creating new momentum for bilateral cooperation; continue to closely coordinate and support each other at international and regional forums, including promoting cooperation of each country in organizations of which the two countries are members such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The two sides highly appreciated the positive progress in bilateral economic cooperation, with the highlight being the success of the Movitel (Viettel) telecommunications joint venture project in Mozambique. The project has been actively contributing to economic development and bringing many benefits to the people of the two countries.
President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi hopes that in the coming time, businesses from both sides will actively study and research to have more leading projects like the Movitel model.
In the field of trade, the two sides agreed to continue facilitating the penetration of each country's key products into each other's markets such as agricultural products, garments, seafood, coal, etc. and to study the possibility of expanding the joint venture cooperation model to areas such as investing in cashew processing lines and building seafood processing factories in Mozambique.
The President of Mozambique highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in the agricultural sector, hoping that Vietnam would support Mozambique in developing agriculture and coordinate the implementation of tripartite agricultural projects following the model that Vietnam has successfully implemented with African countries.
In order to exploit the potential and strengths of each side, the two sides agreed to expand cooperation in the fields of education, training and experts. President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi highly appreciated Vietnamese medical experts not only for their expertise in medical examination and treatment but also for helping to train and improve the capacity of Mozambique's local medical staff .
At the end of the talks, General Secretary and President To Lam and President Filipe Nyusi witnessed the signing of two cooperation documents: a Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Mozambique Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy on cooperation in the energy and mineral sector; and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Mozambique Ministry of Seas, Inland Waters and Fisheries.
