General Secretary and President To Lam asked the World Bank (WB) to continue providing resources for Vietnam to implement breakthrough projects.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on the morning of September 25 local time, within the framework of a working trip to attend the Future Summit, the 79th United Nations General Assembly and work in the US, General Secretary and President To Lam received President of the World Bank (WB) Ajay Banga.

At the meeting, Mr. Ajay Banga affirmed that Vietnam is one of the WB's particularly important partners, sharing that many WB staff have grown up from the country office in Hanoi and always tell good stories about the country and people of Vietnam.

Mr. Ajay himself is deeply impressed with the changes in Vietnam over the past two decades, especially the way Vietnam has participated and continuously improved its position and role in the global supply chain.

In the coming time, the WB President proposed that the two sides continue to promote cooperation to complete the infrastructure system of waterway, road and railway transport, especially in the Mekong region; accelerate the process of sustainable energy transition and replicate and spread Vietnam's success in low-emission rice cultivation.

General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the role of the WB in promoting poverty reduction and addressing global challenges.

In the context of a world undergoing profound transformation, the General Secretary and President welcomed the WB's Strategic Vision on "Building a world without poverty on a livable planet" with the correct identification of important priorities for humanity, which is the foundation for opening up new development cooperation programs focusing on sustainable development and green transformation.

The General Secretary and President affirmed that Vietnam always prioritizes strengthening and consolidating relations with the WB, and suggested that the two sides speed up the unification of the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) between Vietnam and the WB, as a basis for orienting cooperation between the two sides in the coming time.

The General Secretary and President asked the WB to continue providing resources for Vietnam to implement potential, key, and breakthrough projects, associated with the tasks of renewing the growth model, restructuring the economy, converting energy, responding to climate change, and improving the economy's resilience to fluctuations, risks, and unpredictable changes in the international environment.

The General Secretary and President expressed his belief that under the leadership of President Ajay Banga, the WB will fulfill its historic mission and continue to effectively support developing countries in realizing sustainable development goals.

Agreeing with the proposals of General Secretary and President To Lam, the WB President affirmed that he will prioritize allocating large capital sources to Vietnam, focusing on key projects in priority areas proposed by the General Secretary and President.

The WB President hopes to soon return to visit Vietnam to further promote bilateral cooperation, for the development of Vietnam in particular and the Asian region in general.
