On the afternoon of March 13, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, left Singapore for home, successfully concluding their official visit to the Republic of Singapore from March 11-13 at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore and General Secretary of the Singapore People's Action Party (PAP) Lawrence Wong.
This is the first visit of General Secretary To Lam to Singapore as General Secretary, marking a new step forward in bilateral relations between Vietnam and Singapore; demonstrating the importance of promoting relations with Singapore to new heights, in line with Vietnam's foreign policies and guidelines.
Within the framework of General Secretary To Lam's visit, Vietnam - Singapore upgraded the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This is a historic milestone in the relationship between the two countries, opening a new chapter with a longer-term and more comprehensive vision. Vietnam is the first comprehensive strategic partner that Singapore has established with an ASEAN country.
The two sides agreed to propose major directions and assign relevant agencies, ministries and sectors to develop an action program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and develop the relationship substantially and effectively, focusing on enhancing political trust through exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially at high levels; expand and deepen economic, trade and investment cooperation; promote cooperation in digital transformation, innovation, green economy, clean energy; strengthen cooperation in the fields of national defense - security, culture, education, tourism and people-to-people exchange.
Before the visit to Singapore, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, paid an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat from March 9.
During the 5 days, the General Secretary had more than 40 activities with meetings, talks, meetings, exchanges with the world, policy statements, meetings with the Vietnamese community in the two countries and visits to a number of economic and cultural institutions. On this occasion, ministries, branches, localities, and enterprises of Vietnam and the two countries signed many cooperation agreements in many fields.
