Avoid formalism, wastefulness, "plant what tree, live well on that tree
On the morning of February 22, at the Vietnam Communist Party Museum (Xuan Dinh ward), Hanoi city coordinated with the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to organize the launching ceremony of "Tet tree planting - Forever remembering Uncle Ho" Binh Ngo Spring 2026.
Speaking to direct and launch the "Tet tree planting, forever remembering Uncle Ho" Binh Ngo Spring 2026, General Secretary To Lam said that on the first day of Tet in Canh Ty year (January 11, 1960), beloved President Ho Chi Minh planted the banyan tree at Thong Nhat Park (Hanoi Capital), officially launching the "Tet tree planting" with the desire: "Spring is Tet tree planting, making the country increasingly spring" and "this is less costly but very beneficial".
In 66 years of implementing Tet tree planting according to Uncle Ho's teachings, our country has changed clearly. Many bare hills and mountains have been greened, many forests have been restored, and villages and cities have gained more shade. The forest cover rate has increased, and environmental protection awareness has gradually become a familiar thing for every citizen. Tet tree planting has truly entered life, becoming a beautiful traditional cultural feature, a widespread mass movement, bringing great benefits to the country," General Secretary To Lam emphasized.
According to General Secretary To Lam, today's launching ceremony is of even more special significance as it is held at the Vietnamese Communist Party Museum - a place that preserves the glorious pages of our Party's history. Standing before the heroic history and looking at the radiant future of the nation, General Secretary To Lam requested the Party Committee, government and people of the Capital to thoroughly grasp and well implement a number of the following contents:
First, it is necessary to strongly shift from awareness to practical action. Absolutely do not organize the launch of ostentatious, formalistic, and wasteful activities; the spirit of "planting a tree, living well for that tree". Each green tree planted must be cared for, protected, grown and developed. Tree planting must go hand in hand with planning, associated with the development of green, smart and modern urban infrastructure. Resolutely fight against the situation of "hitting the drum and dropping the stick", causing waste of resources for the State and people.
Second, building the Capital "Cultural - Civilized - Modern" must start from the living environment. Hanoi must be the leading locality in the country in terms of green tree per capita ratio, in terms of green public space. This is an important criterion to assess the quality of life of all people.
Party committees and authorities must consider the development of green systems and water surfaces as a key task in the capital's construction planning; resolutely not sacrifice green space for unsustainable commercial projects. Strive for Hanoi to truly be a "city in the forest, forest in the city".

Third, spread the spirit of responsibility and aspiration to contribute. Every cadre, party member, every citizen of the Capital, especially the young generation, should consider planting and caring for green trees as a practical action of studying and following Uncle Ho; as a demonstration of responsibility to the community and future generations. We plant trees today to sow seeds of happiness for the future, contributing to realizing Vietnam's commitment to the international community on emission reduction and climate change response.
Creating a green environment, "forest in city - city in forest
Speaking in response to the movement "Tet tree planting forever remembers Uncle Ho" Binh Ngo Spring 2026 and the directions of General Secretary To Lam, Politburo member, Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc said that Hanoi determines that "Tet tree planting forever remembers Uncle Ho" is not only a spring activity, but a regular and continuous task; tree planting must be associated with planning, protection and care; placed in the overall strategy of green urban development, green growth and improved air quality.

Hanoi Party Secretary Nguyen Duy Ngoc emphasized that the city is determined to create a green environment, "Forest in the city - city in the forest", with a vision of 100 years and beyond.
Hanoi will focus on greening streets, gateways, new urban areas and rural areas; forming ecological belts; gradually increasing the average green tree area per capita; striving for each citizen of the Capital to enjoy a healthier, safer and more livable living environment; managing green tree data throughout the city.
