According to VNA, on May 8, in the capital Baku, Azerbaijan, General Secretary To Lam had a meeting with Chairman of the Azerbaijani National Assembly Sahiba Gafarova within the framework of his State visit to Azerbaijan.
The General Secretary congratulated Azerbaijan on its increasingly high international position in development achievements, hoping that cooperation between the two countries will be in-depth and substantive, commensurate with the good traditional friendship, as well as the potential of the two countries, in which parliamentary cooperation plays a very important role and emphasized that upgrading the relationship to a Strategic Partnership is a solid foundation for strengthening relations.
The General Secretary highly appreciated the role of the Azerbaijani parliament in promoting cooperation between the two countries and hoped that the two sides would continue to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, making practical contributions to the effective implementation of bilateral agreements.
The President of the Assembly of Azerbaijan reported to the General Secretary on cooperation between the two National Assemblies, in which the Friendship Parliamentarians Group operated very actively and closely coordinated.
The General Secretary outlined cooperation orientations in implementing the Strategic Partnership, emphasizing the roles of the two National Assemblies.
National Assembly Chairwoman Gafarova said that General Secretary To Lam's instructions are very comprehensive and profound with a strategic vision, affirming that the Azerbaijan National Assembly fully supports and will coordinate with the Vietnamese National Assembly to promote implementation.
In the spirit of the strategic partnership that the two sides have just agreed, the two leaders agreed to promote the role of the National Assembly of the two countries in coordination, support and urge ministries and branches to promote economic - trade and bilateral investment cooperation with 5 main groups of solutions, including promoting energy - oil and gas cooperation; improve the coordination role of the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic - Trade and Science and Technology Cooperation; promote trade promotion and connect businesses in the two countries; create favorable conditions for investment activities, especially agriculture and food safety; Promote education and training cooperation. The two sides also agreed to promote people's exchange and cooperation between localities of the two countries.
Appreciating the results of parliamentary cooperation in recent times, the two leaders emphasized the need to increase delegation exchanges at all levels, especially professional committees and Friendship Parliamentary Groups; agreed to increase contact and exchange between parliamentarians of the two countries, especially young parliamentarians and female parliamentarians; coordinate at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), thereby expressing a common voice for peace, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world.
