According to VNA, welcoming General Secretary To Lam and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, on the side of Azerbaijan, there were First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov, and Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Vietnam Shovgi Kamal Oglu Mehdizade. On the Vietnamese side were the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation, concurrently serving in Azerbaijan Dang Minh Khoi and his wife; along with a large number of officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Russian Federation, concurrently serving in Azerbaijan.
Vietnam and Azerbaijan have a traditional friendship. The two countries established diplomatic relations on September 23, 1992. In recent years, economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Azerbaijan has developed strongly. Vietnam mainly exports computers, phones and components, seafood to Azerbaijan, imports crude oil and petroleum products.
Recently, Azerbaijan has opened the door very strongly, this could be a very favorable gateway for Vietnam to further develop relations with Central Asian countries as well as with countries in the European region. Vietnam is also ready to act as a bridge for Azerbaijan to strengthen relations with East Asian countries.
This visit of General Secretary To Lam is the highest-level visit of the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to Azerbaijan since the two countries established official diplomatic relations in 1992 and will contribute to further strengthening bilateral relations, especially in areas where Azerbaijan has strengths, especially the oil and gas industry and many other industries.
