The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on October 26, in the capital Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), on the occasion of attending the 47th ASEAN Summit and related conferences, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a short meeting with US President Donald Trump within the framework of the ASEAN - US Summit.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister respectfully conveyed the invitation to US President Donald Trump to visit Vietnam by General Secretary To Lam and senior Vietnamese leaders. President Donald Trump happily accepted the invitation, saying he was very eager and would arrange a time to visit Vietnam.
Based on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development between Vietnam and the US, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the US side arrange a visit to the US by General Secretary To Lam.
Regarding this issue, President Donald Trump suggested that the Vietnamese side soon notify the US side and expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Prime Minister would also visit the US at an appropriate time for both sides.
At the meeting, the two leaders agreed to pay attention to promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development between Vietnam and the US to become increasingly in-depth, substantive and effective, including the early signing of a Comprehensive Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the US in a fair and equal manner, promoting US investment in Vietnam.
According to the proposal of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, President Donald Trump responded positively and acknowledged the proposal to recognize Vietnam as a market economy, remove Vietnam from the D1 and D3 strategic export list and directed senior US officials such as the Secretary of the Treasury and the Trade Representative present at the Conference to promptly respond to these issues to Vietnam.
The Prime Minister said that Vietnam highly appreciates the role of US President Donald Trump in promoting the peaceful resolution of recent conflict hotspots in the world.
The ASEAN-US Conference sideline meeting between the two leaders, although short, demonstrated mutual understanding, respect and unity to continue to strongly, substantially and effectively promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Also on the same day, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a bilateral meeting with US Trade Representative General Jamieson Greer to discuss the orientation for implementing the Vietnam - US Joint Statement on the framework of the Comprehensive, Fair and Balanced Trade Agreement and US Deputy Foreign Minister Jacob Helberg to discuss trade relations between the two countries, cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital technology and supply chain partnership as well as the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two sides in this field.
