Vietnam is ready to promote further deeper cooperation with the US

General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the important contributions of Ambassador Marc Knapper to the good development of Vietnam-US relations.

On January 9, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper to say goodbye on the occasion of the end of his term of office.

The General Secretary congratulated Ambassador Marc Knapper on successfully completing his term of office in Vietnam and highly appreciated the Ambassador's important contributions to the good development of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The General Secretary welcomed the two countries' achievement of many outstanding results in various fields, emphasizing that Vietnam is ready to promote further deeper cooperation with the United States, including the signing of a reciprocal, fair and balanced trade agreement.

The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam is consistent with the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization of foreign relations; consistent with the "4 no" defense policy.

Vietnam always values relations with the United States and wishes to continue to cooperate closely with the US Administration to further deepen bilateral relations between the two countries on the basis of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, making positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world.

General Secretary To Lam happily shared with Ambassador Knapper some outstanding achievements that Vietnam has achieved since the 13th Party Congress to date, especially outstanding progress, highly appreciated by the world such as innovation policies, science and technology development. The upcoming 14th Congress will mark a new stage of development, for peace, independence, democracy and prosperity.

Regarding regional and international issues of common concern, General Secretary To Lam emphasized the requirement to comply with the United Nations Charter, international law; resolve disputes through dialogue and other peaceful measures.

The General Secretary requested the US to continue to support maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the region in accordance with international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982); arguing that the activities of the parties in the East Sea need to contribute to this common goal.

The General Secretary expressed his belief that, no matter what position he holds in the future, Ambassador Marc Knapper will continue to support promoting Vietnam-US relations and contribute to bringing the two countries' relations to achieve many new achievements in the coming time.

Ambassador Marc Knapper sincerely thanked the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their concern and support in helping the Ambassador successfully complete his term of office.

The Ambassador congratulated Vietnam on its outstanding achievements, in which the economy maintained stable growth, people's lives were increasingly improved, and its international position and prestige were enhanced.

Ambassador Knapper expressed pride in participating in major events in the two countries' relations, notably the two countries upgrading relations to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2023, and major activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States.

The Ambassador affirmed that no matter what position he holds, he will try his best to nurture the increasingly developed relations between the two countries, making practical contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and in the world.
