Myanmar President and his wife begin official visit to Vietnam

The President of Myanmar and his wife began an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife.

On September 4, the President of Myanmar and his wife arrived in Hanoi, beginning an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife.

Welcoming Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Kyu Kyu Hla at Noi Bai airport were Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Presidential Office Le Khanh Hai, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Hoang Long, according to VNA.

The President of Myanmar paid an official visit to Vietnam on September 4-6. This is his first visit to Vietnam after Myanmar completed the general election in January and formed a new government, and is also the highest-level delegation exchange activity between the two sides since 2019.

Mr. Min Aung Hlaing, born in 1956, has held the position of President of Myanmar since April. He has held many positions in the Myanmar army, and was Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces from 2011-2016.

Vietnam and Myanmar established diplomatic relations on May 28, 1975, and upgraded to Comprehensive Partnership in August 2017.

Trade turnover between the two countries in the first 6 months of 2026 reached 336 million USD, an increase of 26% compared to the same period in 2025. Vietnam's main import commodity groups include vegetables and fruits, rubber, electronic products and components, agricultural and aquatic products. Vietnam exports main commodity groups including fertilizers, raw materials for the textile and garment industry, means of transportation, machinery, equipment and spare parts.

Regarding investment, Vietnam has 107 valid investment projects in Myanmar with a total registered capital of more than 1.4 billion USD, ranking 5th/87 countries and territories where Vietnam has investment capital abroad.
