On September 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement stating that, at the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife, Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing and his wife will pay an official visit to Vietnam from September 4-6.
This is the first time President Min Aung Hlaing has paid an official visit to Vietnam since becoming President of Myanmar on April 10, 2026. Vietnam and Myanmar officially established diplomatic relations on May 28, 1975.
Before the visit, in August, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries co-chaired the 10th meeting of the Joint Committee on Vietnam - Myanmar Bilateral Cooperation in Nay Pyi Taw. The two sides agreed to strive to increase bilateral trade turnover, review agreements and commitments, simplify import licensing procedures, quarantine, quality standards and customs clearance, and discuss many other areas of common concern.
On this occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung had a meeting with President Min Aung Hlaing. The Myanmar leader welcomed the meeting, saying that this is a timely step, contributing to bringing bilateral relations to a new stage.
President Min Aung Hlaing highly appreciated Vietnam's development achievements in the past time, and thanked Vietnam for always consistently supporting Myanmar in the process of developing and building the country as well as at ASEAN and in regional and international forums.
The Myanmar leader affirmed that he will continue to support Vietnamese businesses operating in Myanmar, creating favorable mechanisms and policies for businesses to feel secure in investing and doing business successfully, especially in the fields of telecommunications, education and training, agriculture, food processing, logistics, digital transformation and science and technology.
