On the afternoon of August 22, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a ceremony to announce and hand over the decision to the staff.
At the ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc presented Decision No. 333/QD-UBND-TC, accepting and appointing Mr. Nguyen Toan Thang, member of the City Party Committee, officer of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Organization Committee, to hold the position of Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment for a term of 5 years.
Mr. Nguyen Toan Thang was born in 1977 in Ho Chi Minh City; has a master's degree in business administration, bachelor's degree in law, bachelor's degree in economics, and advanced political science.
Since August 2015, Mr. Nguyen Toan Thang has been Deputy Director and then Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City.
In February 2025, after the Department of Natural Resources and Environment was merged with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Nguyen Toan Thang continued to be appointed as Director.
On April 18, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council agreed to change the name of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment, Mr. Nguyen Toan Thang continued to take on the position of Director.
From July 1, after merging with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Binh Duong province and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the new organizational structure of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City has a total of 16 Deputy Directors but no official Directors. The list of the Department's Board of Directors at that time did not include Mr. Nguyen Toan Thang.
Thus, after nearly 2 months of leadership positions, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City now has a Director.
