According to the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, exactly 50 years ago, on July 2, 1976, at the first session of the 6th National Assembly, the National Assembly decided to name Saigon - Gia Dinh City Ho Chi Minh City.

It is not only a decision of historical significance, but also expresses the feelings and deep gratitude of the Party, State and people towards President Ho Chi Minh, and at the same time sends faith, expectations and responsibility to the city on the journey of development with the country" - Mr. Tran Luu Quang said.

Looking back at the half-century journey, the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed that the city has the right to be proud of the achievements it has achieved, but always realizes that each step of development has the attention and direction of the Central Government and the support and sharing of localities and compatriots across the country.

With that spirit, Ho Chi Minh City is constantly exploring new ways of doing things from practice, contributing to perfecting mechanisms and policies and promoting the overall development of the country.

According to Mr. Tran Luu Quang, 50 years of construction and development have also left many valuable lessons, notably maintaining solidarity, promoting the spirit of self-reliance and self-strengthening, daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility for the common good and always putting people at the center of all policies.

In difficult times, the identity of Ho Chi Minh City people is further affirmed with the spirit of affection, compassion, dynamism, creativity, aspiration to rise up and consensus in overcoming challenges.

Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary also emphasized that the city has never developed alone. Each achievement has the contribution of the business community, intellectuals, scientists, artists, armed forces, compatriots abroad, international friends and especially millions of people who have worked and contributed to the development of the city.

Don't be content with what you have.

According to the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, the 50th anniversary is not only an opportunity to look back on the glorious journey but also a milestone to affirm the aspiration for development and to more clearly define the city's responsibilities in the new period.

Ho Chi Minh City has the right to be proud of the achieved results but is not allowed to be content with what has been achieved. History has given the city a great honor, which also puts heavy responsibilities on our shoulders" - Mr. Tran Luu Quang emphasized.

Mr. Tran Luu Quang said that Ho Chi Minh City is facing unprecedented development opportunities when expanding its development space after merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. This is not only an expansion of administrative boundaries but also a convergence of strategic advantages, creating new growth momentum and elevating the city's position.

In particular, the Politburo's promulgation of Resolution 09-NQ/TW on building and developing Ho Chi Minh City in the new era continues to affirm the consistent viewpoint "Ho Chi Minh City for the whole country, the whole country for Ho Chi Minh City".

According to the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, this is both a recognition of the city's contributions, and a demonstration of the Party's belief and expectations, and also sets out a special political responsibility for Ho Chi Minh City to continue to contribute more to the rapid and sustainable development of the country.

Honoring the city named after Uncle Ho

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed that the honor of being named after President Ho Chi Minh must be expressed by specific results in socio-economic development, Party building, political system building, improving the quality of urban management, caring for people's lives and making more and more contributions to the country.

The title'Ho Chi Minh City' is not only a reward for the past but also a reminder to the present and a commitment to the future. The city is not only named after Uncle Ho but must realize Uncle Ho's aspirations and desires; not only preserve that title but also make that noble title shine more and more with new achievements, new values, and new contributions to development" - Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary emphasized.

In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to promote the tradition of solidarity, dynamism, creativity and affection; effectively mobilize all resources; build a modern, professional, public, and transparent administration; build a team of cadres with sufficient qualities and capacity, who dare to act for the common good; create a favorable environment for people to have a better life and businesses to develop more strongly.

The road ahead is still full of difficulties, but the greater the aspiration, the stronger the will must be; the higher the responsibility, the greater the determination must be" - Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed.
