Authorized by the leaders of Khanh Hoa province, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Xuan Binh - Party Committee Secretary, Political Commissar of Naval Region 4 - presented a Resolution appointing Mr. Pham Thanh Liem, Deputy Brigade Commander of Brigade 146, Naval Region 4 to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Truong Sa Special Zone.
Mr. Can Ngoc Son, Commander of Truong Sa Island, Brigade 146, Naval Region 4, holds the position of Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Truong Sa Special Zone, term 2021-2026.
Lieutenant Colonel Bui Xuan Binh emphasized that this is an event of special significance, demonstrating the trust of the Party Committee, government and people of Khanh Hoa province in the cadres who have been trained through practical work on Truong Sa archipelago - the front line of the Fatherland.
He expressed his confidence that the new leadership will promote political will, the spirit of solidarity, attachment to the army and people of the island district, be proactive and creative in management, determined to build Truong Sa into an economic, cultural and social center at sea, and at the same time a solid stronghold to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands.
On behalf of the newly appointed leaders, Mr. Pham Thanh Liem expressed his gratitude to the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council and the Party committees and commanders at all levels for their trust in assigning him the task.
At the same time, he affirmed that he will work with the cadres, soldiers and people of Truong Sa Special Zone to unite, strive to overcome all difficulties, and excellently complete the task.
Truong Sa Special Zone was established on the basis of the entire natural area and population of Truong Sa town, Song Tu Tay commune and Sinh Ton commune, with a total area of about 500 km2, located in the eastern and southeastern sea of Vietnam.
Currently, Truong Sa has a system of wharves, airports, wharves, light stations, hydrometeorological stations... serving national defense and security.
The Truong Sa special zone also supports islanders and fishermen in localities to exploit and develop the marine economy, and is also a storm shelter for ships operating in the area.
After the arrangement of administrative units, the whole country has 12 special zones officially operating from July 1. They are Co To, Van Don (Quang Ninh); Cat Hai, Bach Long Vi (Hai Phong); Con Co (Quang Tri); Ly Son (Quang Ngai); Hoang Sa (Da Nang); Phu Quy (Lam Dong); Con Dao (HCMC) and Phu Quoc, Kien Hai, Tho Chu (An Giang).
