The United Nations Human Rights Council has concluded its 59th regular session (from June 16 to July 8, 2025), with 26 resolutions and decisions passed, including 2 resolutions drafted and drafted by Vietnam in the Key Group.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by Ambassador Mai Phan Dung - Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and other international organizations in Geneva - actively attended the meeting, according to VNA.

On July 8, the United Nations Human Rights Council officially approved by consensus two resolutions proposed and drafted by Vietnam and other countries.

First is the Resolution on climate change and human rights, with the theme of climate finance, which has received the co-sponsorship of more than 63 countries (as of the end of July 8, Geneva time).

The Council also passed a Resolution on Strengthening international cooperation, technical assistance and capacity building to strengthen the national framework on the protection and empowerment of children in cyberspace, with more than 87 countries co-sponsoring (as of the end of July 8, Geneva time).

Vietnam has actively participated in the core group of three countries including Vietnam, Bangladesh and the Philippines in the process of developing, consulting and introducing the annual Resolution on climate change and human rights at the United Nations Human Rights Council since 2008.

Vietnam's proactive and constructive participation in this resolution is a testament to Vietnam's commitment to protecting human rights in the context of climate change, while clearly demonstrating a proactive, active and responsible foreign policy on global issues.

Regarding the resolution on "Strengthening international cooperation, technical assistance and capacity building to strengthen the national framework on protecting and empowering children in cyberspace", the successful introduction of this resolution reflects the increasing interest of the international community in the challenges and risks that children face in cyberspace, while affirming the role and image of Vietnam in emerging and cross-border human rights topics.

On the other hand, the resolution also reaffirms the importance of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, and the signing ceremony of this Convention is expected to take place in Hanoi on October 25-26. Thereby, Vietnam continues to demonstrate itself as an active, responsible member and proactively contributing to the process of building international standards at the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Together with countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Vietnamese delegation has also proactively contributed to the development of an ASEAN general statement on equitable transition in the context of climate change.

Within the framework of the meeting, Vietnam organized a photo exhibition "Vietnam: Identification, Humanity and Integration" right at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva from July 30-8, vividly reflecting Vietnam's achievements in socio-economic development, ensuring and promoting human rights, as well as diverse cultural identity.

In addition, Vietnam also hosted a sideline event on " Transforming the food system to adapt to climate change and ensure food rights". International delegates highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts and model of food system transformation, considering this a valuable practical experience that can be shared and replicated.

During the 59th session of the Human Rights Council, the Vietnamese delegation demonstrated a proactive, constructive and highly responsible role in all activities of the Council. The outstanding efforts in this session are a clear demonstration of Vietnam's commitment to promoting dialogue, enhancing mutual understanding and ensuring human rights for everyone.

At the same time, it is also a solid foundation for Vietnam to actively prepare for re-nomination for the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term, continuing to make more substantial contributions to the common issues of the international community, demonstrating Vietnam's proactive, positive, comprehensive and extensive foreign policy.
