On the afternoon of August 7, in Hanoi, General Secretary and President To Lam received Chairman of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand Sophon Zaram on the occasion of his official visit to Vietnam and attending activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (August 6, 1976 - August 6, 2026).
General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the visit is of particular importance, taking place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, a milestone showing the strong development of Vietnam-Thailand relations as well as a new impetus for bilateral cooperation in the coming time.
The General Secretary and President expressed his appreciation for the role of the Thai National Assembly in promoting bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand; affirmed that parliamentary cooperation is an important pillar, contributing to strengthening political trust and promoting the effective implementation of agreements between senior leaders of the two countries.
The General Secretary and President requested the two sides to continue to consolidate political trust through maintaining regular delegation exchanges, high-level and all-level contacts; effectively implement the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2026 - 2031; expressed their desire to soon welcome the King and Queen of Thailand to visit Vietnam in the near future.
Thai National Assembly Chairman Sophon Zaram affirmed that Thailand always values the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam; assessed that the two countries have a solid friendship foundation, many similar strategic interests and great cooperation potential; said that the upgrade of relations between the two countries to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has opened a new stage in bilateral relations; emphasized the desire to promote comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, especially in economy, trade, education and tourism.
Highly appreciating the cooperation between the two National Assemblies in the past time, the Speaker of the Thai National Assembly affirmed that the Thai National Assembly will continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese National Assembly to strengthen cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally; promote exchange of experiences in legislative work, supervision, and decision-making on important issues of the country.
The two leaders agreed to continue to strengthen defense and security cooperation; closely coordinate in the work of preventing and combating transnational crime; soon concretize the "Three Connections" Strategy; effectively implement specific cooperation programs and projects to strengthen the connection between the two economies; promote balanced and sustainable bilateral trade development, towards the goal of reaching a turnover of 25 billion USD and further 50 billion USD according to the common understanding of the leaders of the two countries.
The Speaker of the Thai National Assembly thanked Vietnam for its concern and support for Thai businesses investing and doing business in Vietnam. The two leaders agreed to continue to create favorable conditions and encourage businesses of this country to expand investment in another country.
Sharing the opinions of the Speaker of the Thai National Assembly who highly appreciated the bridging role of the Vietnamese community in Thailand, the General Secretary and President hoped that the National Assembly and relevant Thai agencies would continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to stabilize their lives and make positive contributions to strengthening the friendship between the people of the two countries.
The General Secretary and President also proposed that the two sides continue to promote relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Pride Party of Thailand (Bhumjaithai), thereby expanding the foundation for stable cooperation between the two countries.
