According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on September 21, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, General Secretary and President To Lam had a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. At the meeting, the two leaders expressed their pleasure at the good development of bilateral relations.
General Secretary and President To Lam congratulated Turkey on becoming a full Dialogue Partner of ASEAN, welcomed and supported Turkey's participation and engagement with ASEAN. General Secretary and President highly appreciated the positive developments of the two countries' relations in the past time; said that with many similarities and a highly complementary economy, the two sides need to strengthen cooperation and promote their role in promoting peace, stability and sustainable development.
The two sides agreed to continue to consolidate political trust, towards early upgrading Vietnam-Turkey relations to a new Partnership framework, creating momentum for bilateral cooperation, strengthening contacts and exchanges of delegations, especially at high levels.
At the same time, the two sides jointly aim for a trade target of 4 billion USD through Turkey's recognition of a market economy mechanism for Vietnam, opening markets to each other, limiting trade barriers; expanding cooperation in strategic and potential fields such as defense industry, security and other fields such as Halal food, science, technology, logistics and local cooperation.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highly appreciated the positive development of Vietnam-Turkey relations, expressed his impression of Vietnam's economic achievements in the past time and Vietnam's development directions in the coming time. The President emphasized that Vietnam and Turkey play an important role in the region; requested the two countries to strengthen coordination and make responsible contributions to peace efforts and conflict resolution in the Middle East region.
The two sides agreed to strengthen consultations, coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, including the United Nations; promote the role of a bridge to promote cooperation, promote multilateralism, uphold international law and maintain peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region, between Vietnam and G20, OECD; between Turkey and ASEAN and APEC.
On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam invited President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Vietnam and attend the APEC 2027 Summit as a guest. The Turkish President invited the General Secretary and President to attend the COP 31 Summit in Turkey.
