At 6:25 PM on September 20 local time (morning of September 21 Vietnam time), the special plane carrying General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York City, USA, starting activities to attend the high-level discussion session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, bilateral activities in the US, according to VNA.
The relationship between Vietnam and the United Nations is in a period of good and substantial development. From the years of struggle for independence, Vietnam today has risen to become a particularly reliable partner, making proactive, responsible and breakthrough contributions to the core pillars of the United Nations.
The participation and speech by General Secretary and President To Lam at the high-level discussion session of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly is of great significance in the context that Vietnam and the United Nations are together towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of relations. This also affirms Vietnam's strong support and commitment to the central role of the United Nations in multilateral cooperation, promoting respect for international law.
On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam will also share with senior leaders of countries the lessons of success after 40 years of Doi Moi, and contribute practical initiatives to solve common challenges of humanity such as climate change, promote sustainable development and manage core technologies of the future, thereby continuing to affirm the country's prestige, position and new potential in the international arena.
According to the program, in addition to the High-Level General Discussion Session, leaders will attend and discuss many meaningful events, including the topics of development rights, climate change and equitable transition, sea level rise, pandemic prevention and response, as well as nuclear disarmament. These are all very practical issues, directly related to peace, security, development and people's lives, and also an opportunity for United Nations member states to exchange and propose solutions to common challenges, while shaping cooperation priorities in the coming time.
The bilateral working trip and activities in the US of the General Secretary and President will contribute to deploying the common perceptions of the senior leaders of Vietnam and the United States, and at the same time continue to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to develop stably, substantively, effectively and sustainably. This is also an opportunity for the two sides to strengthen high-level contacts, exchange views on issues of strategic and long-term significance for the relations between the two countries, and at the same time enhance understanding and seek the support of all circles for Vietnam and the Vietnam-US bilateral relationship.
