Muong Cha commune, Dien Bien province was established on the basis of merging the communes: Cha Cang, Cha Nua, Nam Tin, Pa Tan (old Nam Po district). With a natural area of up to 462.28 km2 and a population of nearly 13,900 people, ensuring social security and poverty reduction is a big problem for this border commune government.
Determining that changing production thinking is the key, in early December 2025, a large-scale "campaign" of coffee seedling breeding was launched at Cha Nua village stadium.
Accordingly, from December 6-8, about 70 cadres, workers and civil servants have "hands-on" participated in coffee seedling gardening.

The coffee nursery ensures humidity conditions, sun cover, and rain cover according to technical standards, with a total area of 2,000 m2, sowing about 600 kg of coffee seeds.
Currently, Muong Cha commune has completed the sowing of seeds. This is a valuable source of varieties, expected to provide enough to cover about 480 hectares of newly planted areas for more than 450 registered households.
Notably, all of these seeds are mobilized from socialized sources and will be given away completely free of charge to the people. This not only reduces the input cost burden for the people but also demonstrates the close support of the government in the fight against hunger and poverty reduction.

Choosing a coffee plant is not an emotional decision but the result of a systematic survey and learning process.
Previously, at the end of November 2025, the commune's working group led by Mr. Vang A Chinh - Secretary of the Muong Cha Commune Party Committee had a field trip to successfully "respect" coffee models in Muong Mon and Quai To communes (Dien Bien province).
Here, experiences in land management, farming techniques and practical economic efficiency have been drawn up by Muong Cha commune leaders to apply to their localities.
Mr. Lo Van Than - Vice Chairman of Muong Cha Commune People's Committee said that through a preliminary review in 2025, the whole commune currently has 2,832 households, of which the number of poor households is 646 households (a decrease of 69 households compared to the beginning of the year).
The leader of Muong Cha commune said that after breeding, the commune will urge people to complete the digging of planted holes before May 30, 2026 and simultaneously plant before June 30, 2026.
According to Mr. Than, growing coffee trees not only promotes the development of agricultural and forestry production in the area but also contributes to raising people's awareness in transforming crop structure associated with economic development, creating livelihoods and sustainable poverty reduction for people.

Assessing the potential of this type of tree, Mr. Lo Van Cuong - Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee affirmed: "With the current price, from the 5th year onwards, coffee trees will earn an average of 400 million VND/ha. With that income, no other crop in the province can be higher".
According to the leader of Dien Bien province, coffee trees not only enrich garden owners but also solve the problem of employment for local workers. A coffee picking worker can now earn about 500,000 VND/day. This is an attractive income for rural and mountainous workers.
The strategy of Dien Bien province in the coming period is to convert the less prosperous and ineffective areas of the land to coffee cultivation, combined with intercropping macadamia trees.
The Resolution of the 15th Dien Bien Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030, strives to increase the area of coffee trees in the whole province to about 20,000 hectares.
However, with the current productivity and economic value, I am confident that from now until 2030, the area will reach about 25,000 hectares, said Mr. Lo Van Cuong.
